hi,

i just read on www.ppcnerds.org that some G4 powermac already have an usb 2 controllers. they explain how to understand if you have it or not. it seems they can already work under linux.
can anyone confirm/try this?

Yup, it's true indeed!! Here's a MacNN article about the unofficial drivers available to activate...'cause you don't get USB 2 under the Apple drivers. There's also a link to the original article.

This is the Revision B MDD PowerMac (jan 03), it has some motherboard changes that were included with the addition of FW800 -- ie a PCI USB controller chip.

This differs from the Revision A MDD PowerMac (sept 02), which has NO USB 2 chip.

According to the document found here -- it's the only machine with this chip.

Note: If you have the Revision B PowerMac with FW800 & Airport Extreme capability, you may have a USB2 controller chip -- if you have any other machine besides the new iPod (most likely not).
