    Wii lacks wifi.
    Ethernet-faster than- wifi
University- doesnt allow WiFi in dorm rooms
    me- need to use ethernet

The Wii has USB ports, where the "Nintendo Wii Ethernet Adapter" will hookup, shouldn't we be able to just use a standard usb-ethernet adapter?

It's possible, but there may be the issue of drivers. Nintendo's own USB ethernet adapter ought to be able to hook up with no problem as the Wii and the adapter would presumably already know how to communicate with one another. 3rd party adapters might not. We will just have to wait and see.

Give it a shot, return it if it doesn't work.

When is that USB -> Ethernet adapter supposed to come out? And for how much? I REALLY need it! :)

Only the Nintendo adapter will work because the Wii doesn't have drivers for the others.
