Used Mac Pro??

So I have been looking at the base iMac model but upon reading about this no hard drive switch bug/"feature" I think I need to stay away from it... I was wondering, is it possible to find a half decent Mac Pro for around $1000ish? Preferable something I can upgrade as more money rolls in? I appreciate your insight! What I plan to use it for is Logic ,Abelton, iMovie, PS, Aperture, and games. Not trying to run Crysis 2 on full settings but Portal 2 at full would be nice. Is this possible to find one that can do that around that price or is that wishful thinking? Thanks!

I doubt it. The old Mac Pros that have performance similar to this years or even last years iMacs sell for much more than 1k even on ebay.

No way it will happen no matter which forum you post in.

If you could find MPs for $1000 that were as fast as any of the last couple of Revs -- then iMacs wouldnt sell. But iMacs smoke most of them.

And realize if you really want a 2560 X 1440 27" screen -- add another $1000 to your budget.

It doesnt look like you are doing anything big. How much storage are you using now? Is there some reason you can store stuff on an external? iTunes and iPhoto libraries plus all your ripped movies an easily go on an external drive.

I was factoring in the display. I already have a 27" Cinema Display. I just don't like the idea of not being able to fix it myself should the drive crash. I am used to the DIY thing.

True enough. I feel the same way.

It looks like any new iMac I buy I will have to spring for the $120 Applecare so that at least it can get replaced quickly.
