I'm going to be buying either a MacBook or a MacBook Pro very soon, and I'm also looking for a new MP3 player, namely because my iPod has broken down for 4 times now and BestBuy is still telling me they're not going to replace it. Therefor, I'm buying a new one. I can always go with another iPod (which I don't want for the reason above) or I can try another player available on the market.

The Zen Vision:M seems to be the best alternative, and I would be quite content with it, except for the fact that it does not work on a Mac.

My question is as follows: would the Mac recognize a Zen Vision:M player and allow me to open it in Parallels? I'd prefer Parallels over Bootcamp, if only because I'm not in the mood for booting my computer every time I want to add new music to the player.

Has anyone tried this or know if this would work? Any help would be appreciated.

USB support in the stable version of Parallels is dysmal. Its not likely to work (although I haven't tried with that particular player..)

My iPod nano almost worked in the latest beta..

EDIT: It is likely to work in the near future (if not now) however. That said, I'd still get an iPod. Did you have a 4th gen? I knew a couple people who had problems with those, but my nano never skipped a beat, or my 5G.

I have a 4th generation iPod (Photo). They've been discontinued by now, so I'm the unlucky one who got his a few months before the video enabled iPod was released.

I think I'll probably go with another iPod. Seems safer to buy it than have the possibility of it not working once I buy the MacBook.

Sounds good. The iPods are pretty good these days, I love my 5.5G. I didn't think I'd use the video freature at all, but I do, and the Search (sort of like spotlight for the iPod) is awesome. The nanos look good too. An iPod that doesn't scratch easily, can it be?

Well, good lucky with your purcahse. If I see anything about the Zen Vision: M in Parallels, I'll post back here. A good place to ask questions like this is at the Parallels forums. http://forum.parallels.com/

Although the previous builds of Parallels would blue screen on me when I connected my Zen Vision W (similar technology to the M as they both use MTP), the newest beta builds of Parallels (ie. build 3106 which supports USB 2.0) recognizes and syncs with the Zen Vision as it should. I have also used XNJB and it works good too.
