what are the main differences of the two? is 2004 much much better? Does it take a much faster machine to run it?

I have a mac mini now, and while it isn't terrific for games it is better than my g3 ibook, and I was wondering where to start. I love FPS.

Assault mode was added as well as a lot of other maps. Communications were made more efficient and incompatible with UT2003. There were various other enhancements but I don't really remember.

I think u should play UT2003, it's much lighter on your system as both of your computers are quite low end. They're both great games anyway.

2004 has onslaught?( i think thats the name) assault and other nice new things

onslaught maps are huge and probably are more demanding considering theres like 32 people in a game. it also has vehicles

2003 is strictly foot fighting/ no vehicles

Oh man, dont even think about 2003! It has FAILED in ALL aspects! UT2004 on the other hand, is an awesome game, has MUCH more maps, gamemodes, performance optimizations, characters, better graphics (full shadows, render-to-texture with 3369 patch and OSX 10.4.3), better sounds, more weapons! :D

No-one plays 2003 now, cuz it sucks, really.

By the way UT2003 ran 2x slower than 2004 (tested in same maps with same graphics settings of course), but maybe I just have older patch?

Get 2004! My favorite game so far! :)

UT2004 uses the Unreal Engine 2.5, which performs a lot better than 2.0 (which UT2003 used). It performs much better than UT2003, and in my opinion has much better gameplay.

Secondly, they are still updating UT2004 (a new update was released within the last week) whereas they finished on UT2003 ages and ages ago.

Don't think about it. Just buy UT2004. UT2003 was just the half UT2004. UT2004 has more maps, modes, mutators, gametypes... and it performs a lot better when tested on the same hardware. Note that UT2004 includes ALL maps of UT2003 plus many more!

Also, mod developers have stopped developing mods for ut2003.

It is stupid to buy UT2003 and not UT2004. Trust me.

Try the demo to see how it runs on the mini first... Im used to play it on a pc in 1900x1200 and its realy nice at 40fps+ maxed. On a mini you have to drop the res and the details, but the ctf maps works ok. The Onslaught and assault map can get under the 20 fps quite often even at low settings.

The mini realy is not good for 3d games, but it does run the unreal engine at a suprising speed (even compared to marble blast lol).

Just about - the Unreal Engine 3.0 will require a G5 with a GeForce 6 series as minimum for playable speeds. Don't even know if it will run on a G4.

    it won't.

1)The g4's are already being abandoned. At the time UT2007 comes out, there will be no G4 platform which will be able to play that day's games.
2)The guys at Epic said that GeForce 6800 was the only chip that was able to run unreal engine 3 at a speed above 7 FPS (with maxed settings).

Well we don't have to run this game on maxed settings, do we ;)?

Hope my iMac will run it at least at the same speed as my eMac runs ut2004
