On my Mountain lion after updates are installed I am not able to verify the installed updates by viewing what has been installed. Any ideas?

Click the Apple icon at the top left of the screen then click About this Mac, then System Report... then scroll down the left side and click "Installations" under the software section. That will show your install/update history.

    Doesn't show Installed updates

When I follow weasealboys instructions it does not show Mountain Lion Updates. It shows all software installed and I cannot differentiate between other software and installed updates.

It sounds like maybe you are looking at the "Applications" sections a few entries above "Installations" and that does show everything, including apps installed as part of the OS. But the Installations section just shows apps that have been updated since the initial OS install. If you look in the Source column you can see which ones are from Apple.

For example, in mine I see a Security Update 2013-003 installed from Apple on July 2, 2013.

    No mountain lion update identification

There is no identification for Apple updates that are installed on a Mountain Lion operating system. This existed in Snow leopard but no longer exists in Mountain Lion.:(

If you look exactly where I told you to, you will see the screen below which does show system as well as other app updates. Look at my screenshot and you can see under the "Source" column all updates issued by Apple. It is there.
