My iPod, which I use more than any device I own, probably more than my television, is having problems. If I fully charge it today in the morning, and dont turn even turn it on, tomorrow morning it will be dead again, without even being used. Really sucks for as much as I use it. I called apple to see if/how much they can fix it for, and after waiting 35 minutes on hold I finally got to talk to someone. He informed me that my 1 year warranty was up on februrary 2nd, 5 days ago, so it would cost me I think he said $49.00 to continue the call and troubleshoot the problem. So I simply asked how much a repair on an out of warranty iPod would be, and it was only $10.00 less than the cost of a brand new iPod, PLUS with the $50 for the call, would be MORE than a new one! I told him that I was displeased that an Apple product I bough only 1 year and 5 days ago would have to be re-purchased at the same price, and that is not a very good life span for ANY product. He apologized and said that there is nothing he could do and gave me the url for the ipod repair site. I love Apple, but charging someone the same price for a repair as a new product, doesn't make me want to buy another one.

sometimes it pays to contact customer service and see what they say. While they have no obligation to, they do sometimes extend a warranty a few days to oblige a loyal customer. You can say it actually broke before the warranty was up (not that it makes a legal difference to them, but it can help sawy them)

I have heard people state that they updated the firmware in order to do the iCal stuff and one of the things is the addition of a clock, that runs all the time (duh). In some cases, it is a major drain on the battery. 1 day does seem excessive! If you have the new firmware, I would try reverting to the old...

And a way to possibly buy a new battery:

GOOD LUCK :)
