This is driving me nuts, I can't find any information anywhere on it. Been trying to google this for a few days, but I have no idea what its called.

mp3 files use id3 tags to store all the information about it, what is this called for video files ?

The reason is, I am looking for an application that I can add these to video files from a CLI. It can be done on Linux or OS X. Must be a CLI, not GUI.

I am working on importing over 500 DVDs, and this is one of the things I need to solve before I can start.

Any help would be greatly appericated.

Does the program called Lostify not work? It tags video files.

He specifically asked for a CLI, not a GUI, to tag video files. Lostify isn't suitable in this case.

As for a CLI to tag videos, Atomic Parsely is what the GUI programs use so there might be something in that.
