I recently picked up a 2.0DC PowerMac and am absolutely loving every minute of it. I used to be a really big PC gamer, but over time, my gaming desires moved from the PC to an Xbox and now, when I have time for games, I play console. However, there are a few games on the PC that I still enjoy playing (classics like Starsiege, Tribes, etc.), and now the upcoming Starsiege:2845. There should be an alpha tech release (ATR) "released soon" and while the full game will be released on Windows, Linux, and Mac (running GarageGames' TSE), the ATR will be Windows only.

Would someone be able to give me a quick rundown of what Virtual PC is, how it works, and whether or not it would allow me to play the SS:2845 ATR on my Mac? Thanks!

VPC emulates PC hardware so that Windows and related programs can run on it. of course, since it is an emulator, you'd never get the speed for a game on it, no matter how fast your mac is

Virtual PC is used for Office-like applications. It doesn't even support 3D acceleration. Do not even think to run any game on it. It simply won't run.

Well that kind of shoots my plan in the foot, now doesn't it! ;)

So is there nothing that would afford me the type of emulation that I need to run a Windows game on a Mac?

Not gonna happen. There is no emulation out there that is going to do it.
Only way is to go back to a pc or get the mac version if it even exists.

Unless they make some sort of super Mac that has an x86 processor built in and a copy of Wine for OSX but what are the chances of that ever happening.

Heh actually, Intel Macs are coming, and there is indeed a sort of WINE for OS X. Just wait and see.
