Greetings! Yesterday, I sent the payment to a gentleman i'm buying a 12" powerbook from. I'm really really excited and I can't wait for it to get here. This will be my first mac and I'm really excited to use it!

Any tips for me for using OS X Tiger. I've been a windows user ever since we've owned a computer (all the way back in 93, we had MS-DOS!). I'm going to have to install OS X Tiger on it and I've ordered that too. Any tips for 10.3.9 while I wait for tiger to arrive, though it should get here about the same time.

When I update it, do I lose all of the programs that are loaded on 10.3? I really don't know, since I've never done anything on a mac.

Also, what are some necessary programs to have on my mac?

And how do you all like your powerbooks? Anything I should be aware of?

Congrats! When you update, you won't lose anything. Mac OSX is really easy to learn but it is different. It will take some time to get used to. But if you run into any problems, you can just ask here. As for programs, there are many, depending on what you want to do with your computer. Check out www.versiontracker.com for top downloads and specific apps that you might be looking for.

A couple apps I definitely reccomend are Adium X (AIM/MSN/Jabber etc client), and Shirra (internet browser). Safari is a good default browser but Shiira has a few options that I like better. Growl is pretty cool too. Search through the forums you'll see plenty of threads on cool apps.

I've recently bought a MacBook and it's a great machine. How much did u buy your PowerBook for?

Wow, if I could have found a powerbook at that price last year! About a year ago I paid $1200 for a 12 inch 1.33 Ghz powerbook, 768 ram, and a warranty. I thought I got a good deal at the time and still do. It's reallly been the greatest computer I've ever had and I'm sure you can get a lot of juice out of your powerbook. For great apps just search the forum. I was also a windows user till last year and I don't think I'd ever want to go back. Good luck

You will not be dissapointed. I love my 12inch power book.
in terms of apps, if you're not too picky, the ones that come bundled with OSX are great. But as it was mentioned above... there are apps that mean peoples needs a little better.
I pretty much use Safari, but I have Firefox as a backup browser in case safari doesnt work with a specific webpage.
other than that I use all the ilife apps.
oh, and I have a dot mac account.... alot of people dont think its worth the $99 and they have a decent argument, but I find it to be worth it.
good luck with the new computer! I'm sure you're going to love it.
