I would like to make a family cookbook for Christmas so I need some software suggestions.

    1) a good program to enter all the recipes
    2) a program that would allow me to compile the recipes with other text and photos of family and food
    3) a service that would publish/bind the pages into a handsome book

I'd love to hear any ideas that you may have out there.

    Thanks,

    RSL

    Bit of a general request.

I'd think you'd need a DTP program of which there must be hundreds to choose from. As you asking I'm guessing this will be you first project so you'd probably be wise to have a go with some free and simple first like AppleWorks.

Most bureau should be able to bind your creation but depending on how many you want you may want to go to a specialist printer. It would also depend on what you trying to produce (paperback, hardback, ring bound)

Have you done your market research? If so you should know what it is you want to produce. If not I suggest you start with that before you choose you production method/style.

The program "A Cooks Books" (3caam.com or VersionTracker) is a good, workable place to enter your recipes and to accommodate pictures and notes. You could probably print them as pdf files, and iPhoto albums wind up as pdf files, so that's a possibility for printing in a handsome format book.

Obviously, there are many other ways you could approach this.

You'll be very busy the next two weeks and spend a lot of money, too, if you print many of these with Apple but their quality is excellent. Whatever you do, I hope it is a great success and welcome to MacRumors.
