is the warranty from the time you bought the item, or when you reigster it online? i just got a weird email from apple confirming my powerbook registration which is about 1.5years old, and i didnt do anything to register it lately.....and my power adapter is busted.....think this means the warranty just started or am i being foolish

From when you bought it.

You could delay registration of course for a period of time, but Apple can ask for your proof of purchase. They know to the minute when they shipped that serial number to the dealer or through the Apple Store.

Unless you purchased AppleCare your warranty ran out six months ago. At my local Apple Store they use the serial number of the Mac to determine warranty.
