Why oh why don't they publish good news from Iraq?

Those poor suckers had it bad enough under Saddam Hussein. This is ten times worse. Bush and Blair have instigated a total catastrophe.

Though I recognize E&P is a reputable site, I'd prefer to see this run through the editorial process of the Post and published there before I let myself get too upset by this.

If it's true, of course, then things are deteriorating rapidly.

    Doin' a heckuva job, Dubya.

They created a zillion so called insurgents by bombing the crap out of Iraq, sure Saddam was a killer but he was a killer without WMDs and Cheney/Bush knew this. To take a country to war under false pretense is the lowest of lows yet that is what they did. 2,500 dead for........what? Ego's from the desk jockeys who were hiding under their desk during vietnam. Bush,Cheney,Hastert,Delay,Frists,Rove,Libby. Trying to make up for something.:(

Thanks. I'd checked their front page, thinking this would be front page news, and when I didn't see it there, I assumed it hadn't been published yet.

So, will the rest of the MSM pick this up? And what kind of spin can the Bushies possibly put on this?

But the Iraqis are now free, they're much better off  :(

Even Embassy staff are in trouble.

Does anyone else think this has shades of Saigon or Somalia?

The only thing that surprises me is that you guys still seemed surprised by stuff like this. The fact that he had to make a secret trip speaks volumes. The fact that you could even argue some were better off with Saddam says even more.

    God that's depressing.

Yet everything is hunky-dory according to the stateside folk. So good in fact, that the GOP plans to run on how well the war is going come November.

We'll see if that's the mother of all backfires or not...

I think the depressing part is that not just "some" where better of under saddam. It starting to look like a majority were.

2,500? More like 100 times that amount if you count all the Iraqis killed by the various sides (including the US-led coalition) since the Invasion.

Bliar should be tried for war crimes. The same goes at the very least for Rumsfeld.

Final image from the green zone?

Reading this article and imagining the isolation and surreal differentiation of this millitatrized "forbidden city" within Iraq I couldn't get this image out of my head:

Taken from wikipedia's article on the fall of Saigon. Link to the photographer's account: http://www.mishalov.com/Vietnam_finalescape.html
