I'm thinking of getting a WD 750GB (WD7500BPVT) HDD for my wife's 2009 Mac Mini. This drive is using the new AdvancedFormat so I was wondering if is any cause for concern in terms of compatibility with the Mini.

Can anyone here confirm either way? Thanks.

It should work fine, it's just some technology allowing that big capacities. People have used 1TB, 750GB etc in MBPs without issues

Yes, but under Window you are required to use their WDAlign utility to have Windows work with the 4k alignment used with this new format. Is this not an issue with OS X on Apple hardware? I cannot seem to find anything saying either way. :(

Well, drives without AFT top out at 640GB and plenty of people have 1TB or 750GB in here, without any issues.

Thanks Hellhammer. I'm off to Akihabara to pick up a couple then. ;)

If you didn't leave home yet look into the Seagate Momentus XT 500GB hybrid. The 4GB flash makes it fast. For under $90. it's a good deal on OWC website.

I picked up a WD 750GB for just under 9,000 yen ~$90, installed it this morning and am up and going. Great stuff.

Advanced Format is a non-issue for computers booting with EFI, which I believe every Intel Mac has.

Thanks for the confirmation. I have been happily using a WD750GB internally with my Mac Mini and an external 2TB (WD20EARS) for Time Machine and other storage with no issues. Good stuff.
