I'm thinking of going back to school for a bachelors degree and looking into a career in web design and art. Right now I have an associate degree in graphic design.

Where have some others in a web career gone to school and does anyone has any recommendations on what kind of degrees and schools I should be looking for?

I've never heard of an actual degree in Web Design. Since you have a background in Graphic Design, you might look into Computer Science and focus on Internet Applications. Otherwise you could just be like me and get degrees in new media communications and art and learn web design on your own.

if you want to do more than "get by" than i would suggest focusing on being a creative director or at least an art director. your not going to make any money doing web design....60 grand tops.

Do you have to have a structured classroom environment to learn web design? The reason I ask is, you might be better of getting your bachelors in something somewhat related and learn web design on your own. If you go computer science you'll be exposed to some web design I'm sure. There are also all of these specialty schools now that advertise "game design" degrees that also have Multimedia degrees that have a good deal of web design work with them. Some that I have experience with are:

    Full Sail
    Collins College

I would suggest you get your BA in Art / Graphic Design and incorporate web design courses into that curriculum (if it isn't already a part of it depending on the school). If you think your design skills are "good enough" you could get your BA in something else that you are interested in (like history, psychology, etc.). Whatever you go with you'll find that it works its way into your other skills, jobs and work.

60/k a year for web design is on the HIGH end. I say 30-45 is more average and realistic.

I teach a college web design class.

Funny thing is, I was never schooled in it. I learned by doing.
I can teach the tools used to build websites, but you can't teach creativity.

As Van Wilder says, write that down ;)
