A longtime PC users, I'm about to make The Switch. But before I do, I'd like to decide on the best solution for email. Here's what I'd like to be able to do:

    1. At home, download my email into Mail a pop account (my non .Mac personal address)

    2. When I'm at work using my PC, I'd like to use web-based mail software (or maybe there's another way to get my mail through the office firewall?) to read from the same pop account

    3. I'd like these two places to be in sync. So, if I delete a message when I'm at work, when I come home, I'd like to the messae to be trashed.

Is this possible with out-of-the-box functionality?

Mail works great with pop accounts to download all of your mail to your home computer, and if you make sure that the Remove from Server box is not checked (Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced) you'll be able to view them on your web-based work computer. As for deleting a message at work and having it removed from home, I don't think that that's possible without using your .Mac account and syncing. If you check your mail at work and then delete what you want before downloading it at home with Mail then of course it will be deleted from both (since Mail will never see it) but I don't think you can get Mail to sync with a POP account, or any other account type, without using .Mac

    Hope this helps

    I think I get it...

So, let's say I do use .Mac. I can come into work on my PC, use a .Mac webmail app to check my personal POP account, then that mailbox will sync with my home G5 Mail mailbox?
