I have heard this noise several times and I have no clue what the hell it is. I have looked right after it and I see nothing on my screen (no pop ups, badges or anything). It sounds like a chime that starts low and goes a bit higher and lasts for 1.5 seconds roughly. It's like someone has signed into AIM as if you were on the computer. I do have beejive signed in but nobody has come online or gone off. Also, it was not running. Only my home screen was up in all instances.

I am baffled as to what the noise is. It's a happy noise, nothing bad - I just want to know where it's coming from. Any ideas?

I remember having a similar issue with my first iPhone (2G) long time ago, which also made a similar weird noise. In the end it starting having a lot more issues (random loss of sound, weird pop-ups, also a hissing sound), after which I had it replaced.

I don't have BeeJive so I'm not sure which sounds it normally makes, but all-in-all I'm not sure an iPhone should be making sounds at random. I would recommend doing a restore to see if the problem persists. If so, I would take it to Apple...

It's not a bad noise or anything at all. I am not sure what it is as I have not heard it lately. Seems to be really random.

I thought it was the voice control sound, but I don't think that's it. I do notice it sometimes too. this phantom noise is unlike any noise i've heard on my iPhone, but it is pleasant (not like an error beep).

Is it the noise the phone makes when you hook it up to charge? I've heard of that before.

By the way, you'll probably get more help by posting this in the iPhone Tips and Troubleshooting forum ... I'll ask the mods to move it for you.

Hmm. I thought I was imagining things. I just got my 3gs last week (first iPhone) and I could swear that I've heard some sort of chime/alert two or three times now. Of course it's been in the case when this happens and across the room so I've not been able to see what's on the screen - and I can't ever really say for sure that it the phone doing it- although I'm pretty sure it is.

I agree with the other post- it's not alarming or anything- in fact mine is fairly soft.
