I just had a strange networking problem, I go home and plugged in my iBook, only to find it doesn't have an internet connection. So I head over the the PC (yeah I know...) and try the net, works fine. So I think that maybe I didn't plug the ethernet cable in properly, so i tried that, still not going.

I went and had a look at my hub, and the light for my iBook wasn't on. So I checked the cables again, still no go. I ended up rebooting, and that fixed it.

Anyway, my question is, doesn't the hub light not being on indicate a physical problem? I thought if it was a software problem then the light would still be on? Anyone else had a problem like this?

i had the same problem with my router due to bad ethernet cables running through the walls of my house. they got pulled on too much because at the time, my router was just hanging in mid air, supported by the cables half of the time. this put too much strain on a couple of the ends of the cables and made them work *sometimes*. usually a reboot would help, but quite often it didn't, and just randomly, my internet would work again.

suggestion: check to make sure you have good cables running from the hub to each computer.
