I think we have our 50,000th member. Mods check me on this.

    robinmurphy

On the road to 100,000 members.

EDIT: I PM'd robinmurphy on April 7th, so lets see if she replies

How come it only says 49,957 at the bottom of the main forums page?

i based my 50,000 observation strictly on the number in the url...

it is very possible that not all of the numbers are real. so this welcome may be premature...

so check me on it, as i dont know for sure

Perhaps there have been 43 or so members banned, and therefore no longer included in the count?

we should send him private messages on congratulating for being the 50,000th member, then he will wonder how he got so many messages so fast

If you were able to go back in time and tell Arn & the others that their site would have 50,000 forum members one day, I wonder what their reaction would have been. Disbelief?

i wonder too, perhaps Arn could address this with a nice little "50,000 member" article on page 2 or something

maybe a little history of macrumors/reflections on the website

    Arn....?

How about giving robinmurphy an avatar? Kind of like a "One Millionth Customer" prize? Might provide some recompense for all the attention - and for the pm spam that could arise from SFVCyclone's suggestion (nice idea, but gotta be freaky for a new member?)

Interesting to look at some of the other membership milestone's (#2, 10, 50, 100, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000, etc.) and see how many are not active or never even made a post.

Is it possible to see in order every 50,000 members from first to last listed. :)

You might want to enable smooth scrolling for that one... That would be some list.

Of the 42001 members in the members list, only 28,424 have made even a single post.

Whoa! Only 42000 in the list! Does that mean over 8,000 have been banned?

Macnut: under the Members list, use the advance search, leave everything blank and sort by join date.

I think many people think they have to (or maybe it used to be required) join to read the forums.

Didn't realize arn was such a ****** did you? Oops, better watch my language or it will be 8001

How can you be the 2nd person to join a forum and then never even post a single message?? Maybe this is the person we should send all those PM's to.;)

How troublesome (or pointless, FTM) would it be to eliminate members:
    • with no posts after 30 days
    • who still have a newbie status after one year.
    • who have not posted for 2 years.

How much would that reduce the ranks?

I'm amazed as I scroll through the roster how many people never posted. Can we get numbers of active members opposed to those who never have posted.

Hmmm. Didn't Q post some interesting membership/posting stats a while back? Time to go threadster diving...

    EDIT: try this

That's probably not too troublesome. These are folks who probably forgot their password, or even that they ever registered.

This is potentially moreso. Some people just don't post a lot. You wouldn't want one of these people to have lost their account when they finally want to post a problem (or a solution!) to the forums.

Again, this wouldn't be a problem. Though occasionally I visit back to forums I was a member of long ago, just to see if my account is still active. It can be kind of fun.

Overall, I'd say this would be a rather pointless exercise. There's an infinite number of numbers and membernames, so why bother trimming the list?
