I use mind primarily for watching episodes of stuff I've downloaded, emailing people, a couple of forums, and for editing some pictures.

What do you use your Mac for?

[Sorry if something like this has already been posted; I did perform a search before I posted this and couldn't find anything relevant.]

I use my 15" PowerBook for pretty much everything:
Daily Stuff: Surfing the web, Email, iChat, iTunes (with iPod), DVD player, iCal and Address Book. I use all of these regularly.

Music: Recording Guitar tracks and playing around with garageband, but I might look at something more powerful/higher quality eventually.

Photos: Just amateur stuff, nothing fancy, I use iPhoto for editing and organizing.

Work: Word, Excel, Powerpoint (want to try keynote). Fathom stats analysis.

I don't want to even think about what the cost and experience would be of doing all this stuff on a PC. Security alone is a big time consumer on windows.

For College: Writing Papers, Internet Research, Slideshow Presentation, etc.
For Personal: Internet/Forum browsing, instant messaging, Skype/Gizmo, email, World of Warcraft, iTunes. Have used iPhoto occasionally, just haven't had many photos to alter. Ripping and encoding Family Guy episodes..might get around to burning them through iDVD just to test out the SuperDrive, as well as the iDVD program itself. And I watch an occasional DVD.

I think all of you would agree with me by saying that a computer must be one of the most greatest tools of all time, especially with the internet - because you can do so much.

I see a number of you have wrote 'surf the web'. What websites do you visit? I regularly visit MacRumors (of course!) and HSN.uk.net, and BBC News.

I have iTunes on most of the time and spend too much time here at MacRumors, and of course I also spend some (limited) time browsing elsewhere (RSS in Safari rules), e-mailing, some image managing/editing with iPhoto/Photoshop, some simple PHP/XHTML/CSS2 web programming and trying to keep myself organized with iCal and Address Book (which I sync to my SE T68i).

I think there was a very similar thread to this not too long ago, but I'm too lazy to search right now ;)

Do you encode the Family Guy episodes and put them onto disk as .avi's (i.e. you create a data DVD disk) or do you encode them so a DVD player can play them? (encoding them for viewing on a DVD player seems to take hours in Toast!).

Can anyone tell me what Skype is? I've heard it mentioned once or twice on the MacCast.

It's the centre of my home entertainment set up. I have an El Gato EyeTV for recording TV, the El Gato EyeHome for streaming tv, movies, music, photos to my TV/hi-fi.

I also use it as a computer... so watching pr0n. Only joking. Gaming, Office apps, multimedia (iTunes, burning CDs, DVDs, etc, etc, etc), IRC, chat, internet (email, browsing, etc), it's my calendar, my appointment reminder, weather centre, oh and it has a terminal so it's my UNIX dork toy too. I use it for a lot more too, but hey I have to go to work now. I love OS X! :)

I used Handbrake and ripped and encoded each episode straight from the DVD, into .mp4s so they can play with QuickTime. I don't know if these will work on my DVD Player or not, I'm not that much of an expert on the matter.

Apolyton.net - One of the Internet's oldest and best websites based on Sid Meier's Civilization game series, as well as other strategy games (Rise of Nations, for example. Nowadays I visit the Off-topic forum more than any other part of the site.

Various news sites - MSNBC, CNN, Drudge Report, BBC, etc., all off and on.

Also a Ford Escape owner's site whenever I have a problem.
