I took the plunge yesterday and loaded up VMware fusion. The main purpose for this is gaming, I'd rather not have to buy a console as I'm more accustomed to PC gaming, although its been a while. (I did borrow a mates PS3 for a week and wasn't particularly impressed).

I don't have any modern games, but loaded up Fear and was impressed with how good the graphics look on the iMac. However I did not that there was a slight lag between me shooting a plank and it shattering.
I am using XP home in VM as thats all I have. The defaults settings for VM are 512mb ram and 1 virtual processor.

What I would like to know is what games do you run in VM and how do they perform?

Games run like crap under VMware. If you really want to game on a Mac, use Boot Camp.

I didn't really want to go down the boot camp path, too inconvenient IMO.

Do 'games for mac' also run badly?

I am running GTA Vice City fine under Parallels. No crashes just find a game that doesn't take up too much requirements

Game for Mac don't run as well as Games for Windows as DirectX is better for video games. Games through some virtualization softwares like Wine or Crossover run okay (but not all games work, and they still take a performance hit), but run like complete crap under VMWare and Parallels. Games run natively under Boot Camp.
