My uncle gave me this with a firewire 400 cable and firewire 400 charger. It was one of his son's (my cousin?... I'm bad with these terms) and he upgraded to something newer and better. I'm loving the music on it, but the battery sucks (lasts around 5min). I am looking for a battery on ebay, but need to know if it is a 3rd or 4th generation. What generation is it? I put the serial number into apple's "check your service and support coverage" thing and it told me it is an iPod clickwheel.

Perfect. I just bought a new battery for it. It's great that it's a 4th generation because the earlier generations required the battery to be soldered. This one has a battery connector that requires no soldering.

The firewire charger works on my original iPhone. I believe the generation of devices that were released around the time of the original iPhone is the most recent generation to support firewire charging.

    Edit: Oh and it's not a regular fw400 cable, it's a fw400 to 30pin dock connector cable.
