I was messing around and moved a window I had open to get out of the way off the visable desktop. I'm wondering where things go when you slide them off the screen?

you cannot move a window totally off of the screen, the cursor pixel (the one at the tip that actually manipulates things) must be over a pixel in the window frame, to drag it... and the cursor pixel cannot go off of the screen.

even when you change resolutions, windows are designed to snap within the bounds of the display. so, really, i don't think it can be done. even if it could, you could always just restart...

as pnw says, it's never totally gone, but the invisible part is actually residing in a hilbert space around your ram. it depends on some quantum superposition properties whether or not you can get the window back out of this, so be careful dragging windows off. you'll be happier when exposé comes around...

Be careful with this, especially when around Windows machines. I had my laptop next to a WinTel box, and I put a windows partially of screen. When I brought it back it was all crappy Windows 2000 looking on the part that had been off my screen. I couldn't get it to go away until I used CleanThatMotha****a 1.3.0 by Ambrosia (they make all the best and coolest apps I must say). But as long as there is no windows machine around, you should be fine.

You guys aren't helping at all

Here guy, I'll give you the straight dope.

When you drag a window off the screen it's in the Bleed. Beyond the Bleed is the Blackspace, where the Windowcabras reside. These are a magical race of gremlinites who were banished to the electronics ether by a powerful cyber-wizard, known as Giblett the Green. They love nothing more than causing trouble, but they hardly ever get an opportunity due to the innovation by Giblett the Green of the "Hot Pixel" which is attached to the cursor by a magical ward. The hot pixel prevents a window from being dragged all the way off the screen, as it is charged positively -- like the bleed -- therefore the bleed repels the much smaller Hot Pixel. This is enough to render the Windowcabras powerless, because of the nervous nail-biting habit of all Windowcabras that leaves them without opposable thumbs. Of course, without thumbs, they cannot pull, they can only push, so if the window is not all the way off the screen the worst they can do to it is move it around vertically, which they rarely do so as to not give away their position. The only weakness of the hot pixel is that it runs on -- you guessed it -- love. Without love, the Hot Pixel's fire burns low, allowing it to slip into the bleed ever so slightly. Should the unwary user release his window in this position, the Windowcabras can now get behind it and push it into their realm of mischief. So whatever you do, don't forget to tell your Hot Pixel that it's hot, and that you love it. Try clicking on nice things with it to show you care, and visit technical sites (don't forget to make lots of selections -- make sure to hit "Copy" so the Hot Pixel feels useful).

    That's all.

Now, I know it takes a while to explain that, but really guys, would it have been so hard to put in the effort instead of just BSing the guy?
