Just out of curiosity, why do you like it? I've never seen the film, so I'm in no way passing judgement. Basically, convince me to go out and rent it right now :D Just sounds like an interesting choice for favorite movie.

you have to like shakespeare stuff, i would think.

i love it because the play itself is fabulous, and Branagh is absolutely wonderful at turning it into movie form. the script follows the play almost exactly, and the sets are all wonderfully chosen. then he has great shakespearean actors such as himself, derek jakobi, and emma thompson. the film is beautiful (on the DVD anyway), dramatic, inspiring, and clean, in a way. the one romance scene in it is just hilarious and beautiful. the battle scenes are fabulously enacted. Branagh as King Henry delivers FABULOUS speeches.

    wonderful film.

My wife loves that one and the version of Hamlet with Kenneth Branagh. She thinks hes really hot, plus the plays are almost verbatim from the script, and very well done.

For drama, I'd say A Clockwork Orange.

Comedy... i donno. I enjoyed Clerks quite a bit. Probably The Holy Grail though... or maybe Life of Brian... something Python.

    It changes, but...

For the past couple of years, I'd have to say "The Big Lebowski" by the Coen Brothers. T-Bone Burnett put together a wonderful assemblage of music and Roger Deakin's cinematography was sublime as usual.

Great characters. Absurd situations. Clever, beautiful and under-appreciated.

    Comedy: "Cannibal! The Musical"

    Drama: "Pi"

Action: "Enter The Dragon" (although I don't necessarily consider that a full on action movie)

    Horror: "The Ring"

    Animation: "Blood: The Last Vampire"

Some of my other favs are:

    "One Hour Photo"
    "Mullholland Dr."
    "Lost Highway"
    "UHF"
    "The Messenger"
    "The Jerk"
    "Road To Perdition"
    "The Fellowship Of The Ring"
    "The Two Towers"
    "Batman" (1989 Burton one)
    "The Matrix"
    "Man On The Moon"
    "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"
    "Free Enterprise"
    "Pirates Of Silicon Valley"
    "Taxidriver"
    "Fists Of Fury"
    "Return Of The Dragon"
    and
    "The Chinese Connection"

I'm waiting for them to finally "finish" Bruce Lee's "Game Of Death" with all of the footage they've found and choreography notes, etc. It'd be a very good movie, if they can just finish it correctly.

I don't have a favorite movie, but I'd have to say Band of Brothers is one of the best things I've ever watched.
