Congrats on your new Rebel XT. I've been using one for a while and have been quite happy with it. The lenses you mentioned are two of my favorite as well.

The multiplier ratio is going to take some getting used to. An ultra-wide lens of some sort will definitely be in order!

I also got the Rebel XT a few months ago. I got it with a Sigma 18-125 and a Canon 50mm f/1.8...very nice camera, although coming from a point-and-shoot I'm still not used to the back screen being dark under normal use, and thus tend to leave it on and dran the batteries... :(

As I mentioned, I would give the Tokina 12-24 a big thumbs up! On a Rebel XT that lens is a 19 to 38. In fact I found it so good, I am thinking about trying to go to a two lens kit for my next major shoot (the 12-24 and the Tamron 28-75 - another standout performer), leaving the 17-40L at home.

{BTW: Still working on the close to 1000 images that I shot in SF last week. Hope to have a small gallery posted sometime this coming week.}

Cool--looking forward to seeing some pictures from that 12-24!

I just bought a used Nikon D100 with a Tamrom 28-300. Does anyone have experience with this camera or lense?

Looking forward to using it rather than my POS Nikon Coolpix 950.

Currently using a Canon A80 after upgrading from an Olympus 340(?). I like the Canon, but I'm very interested in wildlife photography so I'm considering a prosumer ultrazoom of some sort or just jumping in with both feet and getting the Nikon D50 with the two lens kit...prices seem to be coming down rapidly in the entry level D-SLRs.

Currently using a Canon PowerShot S410, 4 MP, absolutely love it! It's perfect for what I need and I don't see myself picking up a new camera anytime soon.

Canon SD110... i love it. :)

3.2mps... 2x Optical (not very good)

I would love a Canon PowerShot S2, but I think I need to get more into photography first.

Mellow thread on cameras (expected)

I don't think a thread on cameras would be complete without a good flame or two :) I've had my rebel for 2 years now and really like the layout, it feels comfortable to me. It's all so personal though, the camera needs to feel like a natural extension, and not clumsy. As I'd reccomend to anyone, TRY the camera first, if you don't like it, it'll stay home and do no good, regardless of technical merit.

My kit consists of:

Canon 300D
28-135 IS
50 f/1.8
sigma 28 f1/8
ef-s 18-55

I roll with this:
Canon 1D Mark II N
24-70 f/2.8L
Canon 580EX Flash
2x 2GB Extreme cards (DO NOT order from zipzoomfly, I want my Extreme III's)

Yes that is my old 3G iPod and yes it held up the front of my camera..

I would say that with this lens you have you might want to look at the Tokina 12-24 or the Tamron 11-18 to give yourself a wider field of of view.

Hope you took advantage of the FREE Epson printer and got the FREE wi-fi printer adapter....

BTW... I just got the DMC-LX1 compact digicam. So far it is a great bargain!
