I'm curious what you guys are currently listening to. summer is over and soon we'll need lots of new tracks and rediscovered albums from our collections to carry us through the long evenings...
so why not start a new "what-are-you-currently-listening-to"-thread to get people hooked up to your favorite music right now ;) let's see what you come up with...

here's what I'm currently listening to:

    1. Alexander Kowalski - "Response"
(his new album, the title track is my favorite, high-end techno from the German "Kanzleramt"-Label)

    2. Model 500/Juan Atkins - "The Flow (Original Mix)"
(an older track, a nice blend of electrofunk and Detroit-techno)

    3. Gus Gus - "David"
(a slightly older track, off their current album "Attention", sophisticated house from Iceland, different from their earlier works, nice RMX's too)

    4. Laura Lee - "Crumbs Off The Table"
(an old skool funk track from the 60s, I looked out my window a couple of days ago and saw some heads noding :) )

    5. Smith & Mighty - "Bass Is Maternal"
(IMHO the defining album of the '90s, Bristol sound from Dub to D'n'B, my favorite tracks: "Jungle Man Corner" and "Evolve")

o.k., that's what I had in my headphones this weekend... now it's your turn :)

    vSpacken, Nice tunes bro..

Can you get that stuff from amazon.com or where can I get that?.. I need someone with your kind of taste to recommend some more tunes to me.

Im a Jazz man myself.. Art Blakey, Charlie Parker, Clifford Brown, David Sanchez, Joshua Redman, Patricia Barber

as for the more electronic stuff, im a huge fan of Morcheeba and Hooverphonic.. but its rare that I come across new artists other than the mainsteam crap

There shouldn't be a problem with getting the three albums on Amazon (better: eBay), but I doubt that you can find "The Flow" or "Crumbs Off The Table" other than on some kind of sampler now... mix-CDs are always a good source to get your hands on a nice blend of music and to get to know some artists.

some suggestions for good mix CDs (beware, there are many out there that are wicked crap...):
    - Dj Food & DK - "Now listen, Solid Steel Sessions vol. 1" (my favorite mix-cd, covers a wide selection)
    - Dj Marky - "The Brazilian Job" (an awesome D'nB mix CD)
    - there is a pretty good mix-cd series from a label called "Fabric Records" (an offspin of a club that is based in London), I don't know if you can get them in the US, but check out "Fabriclive 01: James Lavelle", "05: Howie B", and maybe "07: John Peel"
    - another pretty good series is released on the German Label "Studio !K7" and is called "DJ Kicks"... you should be able to get them on Amazon and eBay. check out "Terranova DJ-Kicks", "Kruder & Dorfmeister DJ-Kicks", and "Stereo-MC's DJ-Kicks"... if you like hard techno: "CJ-Bolland DJ-Kicks", if you like hard D'n'B: "Kemistry & Storm DJ-Kicks"
    - label sampler from the following labels are also a good start: Talkin' Loud, Studio !K7, Ninja Tune, Metalheadz, Moving Shadow, Basswerk, Mo'Wax, Kanzleramt...

otherwise, keep your eyes and ears open...

If you want to spend money on only five CDs, I suggest you get the following:
    - DJ Food & DK - "Now Listen! Solid Steel Sessions vol.1"
    - Coldcut - "Journeys by DJ - Special Release"
    - DJ Marky - "The Brazilian Job"
    - Metalheadz Presents - "Platinum Breakz 03"
    - James Lavelle - "Fabriclive 01"

then find out what tracks you especially like, try albums by those artists, the labels they are on and current releases, maybe mix-albums by them or remixes by them or their tracks remixed by others... go to the record stores and take your time there, ask friends... the possibilities are endless, it's like a giant spiderweb :)

At the moment I'm listening to The Representation of Chaos from Joseph Haydn's The Creation.

I tend to listen to a lot of classical music overall, but I also like folk rock a lot, as in Nickel Creek, Matt the Electrician, or Caedmon's Call.

    Ha!

The east coast is awake and.....

Well, I've been listening to my own band a crapload the past week.

We recorded some tunes and we did mixing, and it's been a labour of love, listening to them over and over and over again, mixing, listening, mixing more and finally mastering, followed by intense listening sessions on several various set of speakers and head phones.

And then back at it all over again.

But when I've been able to give my ears a rest from that, i've been listening to a lot of jazz lately: Dizzy Gillespies " 'S Wonderful" and Brubeck's "moscow Night" which features a STELLAR live version of "take 5" which is maybe one of the BEST songs ever written. From a bunch of square white guys too. Wow.

Also been listening to a lot of St Germain ("tourist" and "boulevard"), Lamb's "Fear of Fours" (prepping for when I get my upright... wooo.... and of course, Thievery Corp.

Also, I just got "Verve/Remixed no 2" but really haven't had a chance to dig into to much. Sounds good so far, but doesn't stack up to the original.

Best music I've heard "recently" (within the last year or so) include Sleater-Kinney, Sixteen Horsepower, Fischerspooner, Wovenhand, and of course Ween, Mogwai, Landing, Surface of Ecyeon, and Radiohead all have new albums out that kick ass! Other cool acts are Midival Pundits, DJ Cheb i Sabbah, Drive By Truckers, Pine Valley Cosmonauts, Waco Brothers, and Asian Dub Foundation.

    aaahhhh, Underworld... :D :D :D

I don't know if you already have this, but check out the "Bootleg Babies" live compilation on Underworlds homepage here... similar to "Everything Everything", but way more tracks (I actually listen to this double CD more that to my "E. E."...)... I really miss "Dirty Epic" though... :)

good choice, I hope to get that too and I have high expectations... I only know the "Patife" remix until now, but that one is pretty tight... ;)
