My mom currently uses a Pentium 4 Desktop running Linux which also serves as our file server and time machine backup host. She uses it for light web surfing and e-mail. I was thinking about giving her my PowerBook G4 to use and instead using a spare AMD Athlon desktop as a dedicated server running FreeNas. I've recently picked up a non-working PowerMac G5 which would need RAM, a power supply, a cd drive and a graphics card to be functional again. I was thinking I could give this to my mom instead and also use it as our file server using the Sonnet Jive kit to add more storage. I'm also planning to start digitizing our VHS tapes and thought I could use G5 for capturing instead of tying up my MacBook Pro. Thoughts, comments, criticisms?
