Mine was an early 2008 15" Mabook Pro. Cost me $3500 CDN at a time when the exchange rate was on par or close to it. With today's rates, I wouldn't even think of it.
High res matte screen, dedicated graphics, maxed out the CPU, and went with 4GB ram. Left fan died after the 1st year. AppleCare took care of it. Battery started failing about 2 weeks before AppleCare expired. Apple replaced it under warranty. Genius at the time said it was due to a combination of how good the condition the system was in at the time (not a scratch on it), as well as that it had only been brought in for the fan and nothing else. That implied to me that at least that store may have some sort of case-by-case policy they follow (or did at the time), where the genius could use their best judgement to determine the chances of them going beyond the stated written terms in the AppleCare agreement or not. But, who knows *shrug* ... all I know is that I got a brand new battery out of it, 2 weeks before the warranty ran out, which was nice.
Can't remember the drive it had. Both the RAM and hard drive were upgraded 3 years later. 6GB, and 500GB 7200RPM. Optical drive died after about 4.5 years after initial purchase, and I took it out and put an SSD in its place. Shortly after that, it was stolen.
