I've never been a fan of multiple computers when there's no need for it. I see both sides. On one side, you can have a ton of space, and a portable when you want it and a desktop when you want it, and on the other side you would have a better laptop. It's a hard choice.

I have an iMac and iBook combo and wouldn't swap it if you shot me. Keeping them synchronised isn't hard and there's always a machine to use, even if one goes down.

That's a really tough decision, but I'm feeling the macbook imac combo. When your not on the run, you've got a nice wide screen and lots of desktop space and we've you gotta move, you've got your very portable macbook. Even though, I'm in love with the mbp, which i'll be purchasing this fall, but that's because i have a pretty decent desktop with a 20" FP.

Count me in on the "iMac + MacBook" bandwagon. With the iMac, you've got all the performance benefits (and then some) of the MacBook Pro, and with the MacBook, you've got the portability benefits.

I have a PowerBook and was thinking of getting an iMac (and keeping the PB), but now I'm leaning towards getting a MacBook, selling the PB, and getting an external monitor, large external HD (7,200 rpm) and maxing out the RAM. I have a battery of questions about it, but they're for another thread at some stage.

I figure it's easier to keep everything in one machine with a large drive for backups and stuff I don't need to access all the time. I gather video editing is faster with an external drive too as the files are not competing with the OS on the main drive.

Portability is very important to me. Up to recently I would have said that the combo is ideal, but if you need to travel a lot, it is handier not to have to worry about syncing and such. It won't look as neat on the desk, but that's not so important to me, and there are creative ways to make it look nice.
