if you were apple and you had or were soon expecting working g5 chips on machines in research and development, when would you release them now that the g4 dual 1 ghz was released today?

    later this year?

    beginning of 2003?

They will be released as soon as they are ready and in enough supply to meet estimated demand.

    MWNY All the way

Apple will be in New Yor at that time a city in the rebuilding stage. So the G5 would be perfect ie rebuilding Apple to the former Apple II/1984 era.

    a little wrapup ....

here a small recap of speedbump in the G4 line since the G4 was presented ... you'll notice a clear pattern here:

    Sep1999: G4 450/500 (speed-"dumped" later to 400/450)

    Feb2000: G4 400/450/500

    Jul 2000: G4 400/2x450/2x500

    Jan2001: G4 466/533/2x533/667/733

    Jul 2001: G4 733/867/2x800

    Jan 2002: G4 800/933/2x1000

so MWNY 02 "could" bring the G5 ... but as you see the troubles apple had when they first introduced the G4 (speed-dump, because Moto could not deliver enough, also the motherboard (PCI vs. AGP) changed shortly after) ... so if you're betting on the G5, expect a bumpy ride ...

if you need/want/lust for a powermac, go NOW!

They should release them at Macworld New York. The biggest things should always be released at macworld expos.
