    Hi guys,

I've been wanting to switch to apple and I'm pretty sure I've decided to get a macbook over an iMac.

btw i cant afford a macbook pro, im just 15

so i was wondering which would be better
macbook with 1.83 processor and 2gb of ram
    or
macbook with 2.0 processor and 1gb of ram

i will use it for itunes, internet browsing, home movies in imovie, idvd. but no gaming.

so which one is better (faster) for that use?

    thanks

Are you talking the new line? Because the 1.83 doesn't have a SuperDrive, so you won't be able to burn DVD's. (you mentioned iMovie/iDVD)

Personally, if I were buying a MacBook, which I will be soon, I wouldn't get anything less than the higher end white or the black. 1GB of ram will be fine for now, and you can always upgrade later.

ooh yeah i didnt even think about that.

i COULD get 2gb of ram in the 2.0ghz but then i wouldnt be able to get an external monitor....so i guess it's 2 gigs or a monitor

Well, you could try it with 1GB, obviously 2GB is better, but 1GB is still decent, and get your monitor...

Or you could buy a refurb MacBook and save a couple hundred bucks. I have never bought a refurb but lots of people have and swear by it.

These are the two top end MB's in the refurb section of the store right now. The White one is a great deal, so if you go for that you could have enough money for 2GB RAM and hopefully an external.

No need for the Blackbook, more money for fundamentally the same function. As for processor vs RAM, the latter is much more easily upgraded at a later late (well actually it is near impossible to upgrade the processor on a MacBook). RAM is also relatively inexpensive.

I've managed with a CoreDuo 2.00Ghz MacBook with 512RAM, and the performance has been decent, especially considering I use heavy audio editing and production tools.

You should be flying with a 2.00Ghz 1GB Ram Core2Duo Whitebook!

Go with the 2.0 with superdrive if not you will be kicking yourself later when you want to burn a DVD.
