If you mean LG 5K's, then as I said above, won't be available for order until "December" per Apple's site. So who knows when they'll actually ship?! Lol.

Anyone know what monitor/tv is in this vid on the left?

Now that some good 4K TVs are around what do we think of those? Could get a hub with hdmi out and still only need to connect one cable to the mbp :D

Now that I've spend a fortune on a new MacBook Pro I'm going hang on to my 24" Dell U2413H for a while, with atleast 99% AdobeRGB, 100% sRGB I'm fine to have this as a secondary monitor (I don't film higher than 1080p). I might end up replacing the 2413 once the 4K wide-gamut monitors are a bit more affordable ;).

I can confirm its working. Need the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. See pic below. My problem is, how can I efficiently incorporate using the laptop open with the dual Thunderbolt Displays. I've always used my laptops with them in clamshell mode, but I'd like to use this Macbook open due to the Touch Bar. I'd like to really use it daily to get it into my muscle memory.

The best option I've found is Twelvesouth Hirise for Macbook. Any other ideas?

One idea is to use all devices on one flat horizontal desk, rather than across a corner as seen in your pic above. Then raise the 2x displays using a shelf so they are higher than the MBP screen that would be in front of them (quickie post it note, lol!):

2016_11_22_16_20_44.jpg

Then do phone/paperwork/iPad on the other side desk. :)

I also happen use AV turntables/lazy susans under the display feet so I can swivel these ACD/ATD's too. e.g: https://www.amazon.com/Bluecell-Rotating-Bearings-Monitor-Turntable/dp/B009NPJ0RW

That is a fantastic idea. Thanks for the thoughtful input. I really appreciate it! I'll take a final pic and post it once I complete it. I think I'm going to give it a shot.

My current setup is dual Dell P2715Q's, but I'm going to sell these. They still have the sleep/lock-up issues to this day. Occasionally I need to pull the power and reset the monitor to get them to come back up. I presume it's because I have one of the earlier hardware revisions. I'm tired of it, time to move on.

I have these two monitors on Humanscale M8 monitor arms. Humanscale makes a laptop stand for their monitor arms, so I picked one of these up. It's quite nice, I can move the laptop around, and use it's display just fine and can position it next to my monitor.

I'll keep the other arm for the monitor. I'm replacing the two P2715Q's with a Dell UP3216Q (31.5" 4K). I think with the bigger monitor I can run my desktop in a higher "looks like" resolution (today I use looks like 2560x1440), getting more screen real-estate while being easier to read with the bigger monitor. That, combined with the 15" display of the MBP should be nice.

I was originally considering the LG 5K. Early reports on the smaller 4K model indicate it doesn't work with anything but the new Mac's. That's really a huge negative in my book. I also have a Surface Book, and want to be able to dock my other laptop at my desk as well.

As much as I'd like 5K resolution, I am not sure I need it. The 4K monitors I have already look spectacular, I can't see the pixels at my normal desk viewing distance.

So hopefully the new big Dell will work out well!

I am an IT Director for a City. With the exception of the new 15" MacBook Pro (which I'm grateful for), everything else was purchased by me.

Apple products are generally the only financial reward I budget for myself as a husband and father. (I.e I don't spend lots of money on other hobbies, etc. They aren't cheap, but as of about 6 years ago, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a minor obsession)

I'm going to be using my laptop as my daily driver to replace my 2012 upgraded and maxed out Mac mini desktop that I was using with the Dual TB Displays.

Sure thing. The only thing you realise, is that the bigger the 4K display, the lower the DPI pixel density. At 21.5" the LG 4K (widescreen 4K that is, at 4096x2304) it's 219 ppi, and on the 27" LG 5K (5120x2880) it's 218 ppi — so more or less the same. Going to 32" on a 4K means it falls below what Apple would call "Retina Display" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retina_Display ), being just 138 ppi (per: https://www.sven.de/dpi ).
As a comparison, a 1440p display (2560x1440) at 27" (e.g. ACD/ATD) is 109 ppi.
(I can't be bothered to work out what all those currently popular specialist super-widescreen displays people use for video timelines etc., lol!)

But that may do you well, just worth noting. ;)
[doublepost=1479856263][/doublepost]One thing one also realises, is that to get Retina Display's for 8K video (likely 80"+ TVs), we're going to have to have 10K computer displays, to retain resolution ppi accuracy. As an 8K at 85" (7680x4320) is only 104 ppi, hence a 10K (10240x4320), like the Boe prototype at 82" is still only 136 ppi – but if that display was made at around half that (say 40") it'd be 278 ppi.

Boe 10K at 82": http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1433489433 ...ouch!

But the ppd (pixels per degree) is a more important measurement, and harder to discern, see: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2841...plays-matter-the-one-spec-that-tells-all.html

Please post a review when you get it :D

I like that all three ports on the back are usb3.1 (5k version only) - I hate that I can't connect anything else to it :(

Just hooked up the 4k to my 13' 2016. Really incredible. Take your pick, either the 5k or the 4k.
note: Obviously the 5k is much better. The fact that the 4k is ''USB 2 is lame, but i don't like big monitors, so my options are limited. This monitor is very high end though, and for $550 that's decent.

Exactly one week to go until the 1 December — come on Apple pre-orders on the 5K puurleeese! (per the LG press release of an "early December" release, so one can at least hope they mean the first day of month (...or not). ;)

I just finished my setup. I connected my new MacBook Pro 13in base model with touchbar with Dell P2715Q. Zero problem so far. Really enjoy the 4k display right now.

I was ready to pull the trigger on an LG 4K Ultrafine from the Apple Store, but even though it's not 'retina', my Thunderbolt Display still looks so nice and does a good job of acting as a docking port, so I think I'm going to wait a bit.

Bugger.

I am tempted to order it just to see what it's like :) but I expect the same thing will happen here, available to order for five minutes then peculiarly, they'll be 'out of stock'

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of devices you can connect to the LG 5KUF via the dock?

So could I connect a USB hub to one port (for three or four additional usb ports) as well as make use of the other 2 USB-C ports (for things like HDs)?

OR as mentioned before, as the 15" has 6 lanes for display traffic, could one connect ANOTHER 1440p/4K display into the 5K displays?
(2x lanes 5K#1 / 2x lanes 5K#2 / 1x lane MBP screen = 1x lane left for something).

Who wants to check...
Marques Brownlee / Jonathan Morrison it's over to you two – as you're the only people with the sodding things to try it! ;)

Probably more frustrated than I would be if I didn't think I was ordering this - but it just feels like I am getting something I will secretly dislike because of blunders made on Apple's part. Had they done their jobs properly this would have been an excellent display and we would have all been very happy:

Everything wrong with the LG Ultrafine 5K

Hey guys, I've bought the Acer H77HU with the USB 3.1 port paired with a 2016 15" MBP. Why is it that when i connect my MBP with a Usb-C cable it only charges with 1-2 Watts? I takes literally more than 10-15 minutes for it to charge 1%. Any ides? (See picture below for power)
