u tried?
I can confirm its working. Need the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. See pic below. My problem is, how can I efficiently incorporate using the laptop open with the dual Thunderbolt Displays. I've always used my laptops with them in clamshell mode, but I'd like to use this Macbook open due to the Touch Bar. I'd like to really use it daily to get it into my muscle memory.
The best option I've found is Twelvesouth Hirise for Macbook. Any other ideas?
One idea is to use all devices on one flat horizontal desk, rather than across a corner as seen in your pic above. Then raise the 2x displays using a shelf so they are higher than the MBP screen that would be in front of them (quickie post it note, lol!):

Then do phone/paperwork/iPad on the other side desk.
I also happen use AV turntables/lazy susans under the display feet so I can swivel these ACD/ATD's too. e.g: https://www.amazon.com/Bluecell-Rotating-Bearings-Monitor-Turntable/dp/B009NPJ0RW
hoyl crap man what do u do for a job? lolI can confirm its working. Need the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter. See pic below. I am an IT Director for a City. With the exception of the new 15" MacBook Pro (which I'm grateful for), everything else was purchased by me.hoyl crap man what do u do for a job? lol
Can you post a pic of your setup please? My current setup is dual Dell P2715Q's, but I'm going to sell these. They still have the sleep/lock-up issues to this day. Occasionally I need to pull the power and reset the monitor to get them to come back up. I presume it's because I have one of the earlier hardware revisions. I'm tired of it, time to move on.
I have these two monitors on Humanscale M8 monitor arms. Humanscale makes a laptop stand for their monitor arms, so I picked one of these up. It's quite nice, I can move the laptop around, and use it's display just fine and can position it next to my monitor.
I'll keep the other arm for the monitor. I'm replacing the two P2715Q's with a Dell UP3216Q (31.5" 4K). I think with the bigger monitor I can run my desktop in a higher "looks like" resolution (today I use looks like 2560x1440), getting more screen real-estate while being easier to read with the bigger monitor. That, combined with the 15" display of the MBP should be nice.
I was originally considering the LG 5K. Early reports on the smaller 4K model indicate it doesn't work with anything but the new Mac's. That's really a huge negative in my book. I also have a Surface Book, and want to be able to dock my other laptop at my desk as well.
As much as I'd like 5K resolution, I am not sure I need it. The 4K monitors I have already look spectacular, I can't see the pixels at my normal desk viewing distance.
So hopefully the new big Dell will work out well!
Sure thing. The only thing you realise, is that the bigger the 4K display, the lower the DPI pixel density. At 21.5" the LG 4K (widescreen 4K that is, at 4096x2304) it's 219 ppi, and on the 27" LG 5K (5120x2880) it's 218 ppi — so more or less the same. Going to 32" on a 4K means it falls below what Apple would call "Retina Display" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retina_Display ), being just 138 ppi (per: https://www.sven.de/dpi ).My current setup is dual Dell P2715Q's, but I'm going to sell these. Please post a review when you get it
I like that all three ports on the back are usb3.1 (5k version only) - I hate that I can't connect anything else to it
Exactly one week to go until the 1 December — come on Apple pre-orders on the 5K puurleeese! (per the LG press release of an "early December" release, so one can at least hope they mean the first day of month (...or not).
First reviews/videos are appearing now:
LG Ultrafine 5K Display Unboxing + Setup!
Dream Desk 4 - He Didn't See it Coming
Want comments on the 'glossy' screen tho - I'm not sure how anyone can work with a reflective screen :/
And the 5K is out! ...oh, but only in US/Can, and has an unbelievable 6-8 week lead time.
Bugger.
OR as mentioned before, as the 15" has 6 lanes for display traffic, could one connect ANOTHER 1440p/4K display into the 5K displays?Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of devices you can connect to the LG 5KUF via the dock?
So could I connect a USB hub to one port (for three or four additional usb ports) as well as make use of the other 2 USB-C ports (for things like HDs)?
