The battle between the two giant still continues, in your opinion, which phone do you think is best, Apple iPhone 5 or the Samsung Galaxy S3?

The S3, because due to the fact that it's been succeeded by the S4 it now costs half it's original price

iPhone 5. Beautiful, fast, great battery life and has a great screen size which allows for 1 handed use.

iPhone 5. You can easily accidentally lose the phone icon on the S3 and then you have to go digging for it. This can be very problematic when you're using a third-party launcher like Apex or Nova which allows you to hide everything, or even on the stock launcher where you have to dig through all your apps to find it again to stick back in place. At least on the iPhone, it's within the few pages of home screens and it's less likely you'll accidentally move it.

    Nokia 808

According to this review, the Nokia 808 has a generally higher quality camera than either than iPhone 5 or the Samsung(s):

    http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Mobiles/Nokia-808-PureView

FWIW, though, there are many online complaints with respect to its 3G reliability. Too bad, because a lot of people seem to use their phones as cameras or for messaging more than for talking. But, naturally, people wanting to take pictures will also want to send those pictures via 3G/4G. (Also, some complaints about autofocus in dim light as well -- that is, what good is the low light capability if the picture is out of focus?)

Both are good. Which one is "best" depends on the user.

A phone is only as good as its operating system, so for me the Galaxy S3 is streets ahead

your statement is partially true. Android has "Homescreens" AND main app launcher. also in order to remove an icon on android, you have to long press it then drag it to the trash can. i can't see how that could be accidental instead of intentional. If you remove an icon from homescreen, the app is not uninstalled. it's just removed from one home screen and you can simply drag the icon back on the homescreen. nonetheless, some launcher offer "locking" option.

unless you use the "restrictions" in IOS, you can just as easily remove icon on iphone and to make things worse, it uninstalls the app and files you put INSIDE that app.

    ---

anyways, i dont think theres a definite answer to this question. just use whatever you like. i prefer function over form. so i prefer s3. i get more utility from it than ios devices.

OP: Did you bother to peruse any of the threads? You'd have seen oodles of opinions and random people disparaging people they've never met over their choice of a technology tool. You'd have seen how people attach their self-worth to a phone so closely that it hurts them to see anyone enjoying something other than whatever brand they themselves chose.

Occasionally you'd come across a post from a rational person who sums the whole thing up with "The best is whichever one works for you and your needs best".

Basically, you would have seen the same thing you are asking for. We really don't need more "my phone is better than yours" posts. We're full up!

I was half joking, but most of the time, because the lock screen isn't as good as the iOS one, I do accidentally destroy my dock from moving stuff around while the phone is in my pocket. And yes, that includes removing the Phone icon.

Someone at XDA actually found that their phone had booted into the recovery and wiped the entire system and data partitions while in their pocket. While someone might not be rooted, it's still possible that their phone could end up in the Samsung recovery and do this.

If you are using touchwiz, it is near impossible to remove any icons on homescreen accidentally.

To have this happen, first you need to off the phone then you need this sequence of keypresses:-
vol-up+power+home buttons pressed+holded at same time then follow press vol-down then press home button then press vol-down then press home button.

If you believe that it is possible to wipe the phone "by accident" when in your pocket, then you must be the most gullible person there is.

I've owned both and like both but for me, I prefer the iPhone 5. Why? A few reasons. The head unit in my car is made for iPod/iPhone. I plug it in via USB and all the info comes up on my screen, no looking down at my phone. The camera on the iPhone is better, especially for recording video in loud environments like a concert..the S3 sounds muffled and tiny while the iPhone records the audio extremely well.i prefer the iPhones display, not a big fan of pentile matrix at all. Color reproduction is much better on the iPhone as well. iOS apps are more polished then their Android counterparts. Facebook and Instagram are just two examples of this. Better battery life with the iPhone and it works flawlessly with all my Apple products. I am willing to sacrifice screen size and custom keyboards for these things.

Nova gives you the option of locking your desktop. Nothing on your desktop- icons, widgets, etc - can be moved unless you unlock the desktop.

I would also go so far as to say that, purely in terms of camera quality, the Nokia N8 is also better than both the iphone 5 and galaxy s3.

The S3 convinced me to do something that the 5 couldn't, which is make it my next phone. And I haven't looked back since. That's enough of a reason to say the S3 is better. :p

Depends on the user. I like and hate both. Both are good and they are both farrrrrr from perfect.

I have a 4S so if I were to pick one right now it would be the S3 because the 5 is too similar to the 4S. That's the reason I don't have a 5 now. I might pick up a 5S if it has some cool software features my 4S doesn't get.

    Have to be the S3

I tried the iPhone 5 in a shop for 10 minutes and it didn't work like Android so I put it down as a bad phone

But in seriousness, neither is better, just depends on your needs and which eco system you like to work in

If I got offered either for free I would say thank you very much

When I read your first post, I knew you had to be joking. Only someone very unintelligent would lose their phone app haha.

For me personally I would go with the S3. But that's because I prefer android on a phone. Those that prefer iOS will obviously choose the iPhone.

No need to talk about advance stuff. Just simple things already make S3 better than iphone5 for me.

    - Use the home button to answer call
    - thumbnail photo in call log/contact/favorite list.
    - speed dial / matching search on phone dialpad
    - swipe anywhere to unlock instead of looking for the slide bar.
    - smart stay keeps screen on when you are looking at screen.
    - preditive multi-words selection in keyboard.
    - LED notification light
    - Quick toggles in notification.

and many more (too lazy to type)
