Sounds like a lot of B.S. from the Police state, not being at your own trial? sounds like we are becoming Nazi's or Communist's to me. Sickens me this kind of crap just keeps spewing out of the administration of spin.

Yeah. This is the kind of thing you'd see under Saddam or Castro.

We have met the enemy and...become them.

And there's this small paragraph towards the end that terrifies me:

"To secure a death penalty under the draft legislation, at least five jurors must agree, two fewer than under the administration's earlier plan. Courts-martial and federal civilian trials require that 12 jurors agree."

How many actual jurors are there?????

Sounds like the beginning of a common-or-garten fascist state to me.

Republicans hadn't had all the power in what 50 years? Its like they went crazy to dismantle anything and everything the democrats may or may not have accomplished in that time, in essence removing Liberties and Freedoms at every chance with democrats like Lieberman even helping them. The Constitution is under attack from both Partys , both control freaks.

Even assuming that the neocons are on the up-and-up (ahem), why would someone with the best interests of the country at heart propose something as obviously dangerous and prone to abuse as this legislation? If the Dems don't win the House in November we are all ****ed. :(

Yeah, this qualifies as some scary @ss s**t.

Prosecutor: Your honor this case should be over rather quickly as I have a signed confession from the defendant.
Defense Lawyer: What? My client never signed a confession.
    Prosecutor: Did too.
    Defense Lawyer: Did not.
Prosecutor: Did too. *holds up sheet up paper that looks vaguely like a take-out menu*
Defense Lawyer: Give that too me.
    Prosecutor: Make me.
Judge: Hm. Looks guilty to me. Lethal injection. Next!

how about his scenario: an american reporter in baghdad, who's writing stories that embarrass the administration, is picked up for "treason". when pressed, rumsfeld adds "undermining troop morale" to the list of military violations.

the reporter is tried and found guilty without any public scrutiny. he cannot contact his family and his military-appointed lawyers adhere to their court-mandated gagrule.

his family doesn't know where he is or how long he'll be away, they're only told that he was found guilty and is serving his sentence.

    it's the New America.
