John Sculley is FAR from a loser... after all, Steve Jobs famously recruited him away from his position at Pepsico with the line "You wanna sell sugar water forever?" And don't forget, it was Sculley who kicked Jobs out of Apple. You may not like him, but he's a hell of a businessman.

Funny, that was my immediate thought when I saw who posted this thread. Anyone seen our mod mini lately?

Yeah, that was a VERY savvy business decision. I mean Sculley was just awesome as an Apple executive. Look at where Apple went. Who needs Steve Jobs when you have Sculley...?

But I don't live in a dream world.

He did fine at Pepsi, but he didn't have a good handle on technology and he definitely didn't care about it. However, he did start the PDA business with the Newton and that should be considered a great accomplishment, even if it wasn't widely accepted, esp. by Steve Jobs.

If there wasn't a power struggle, Steve Jobs would never have gone anywhere and it's possible that Apple wouldn't be thinking differently today.

Wasn't it Scully that always managed to cripple each release of the pre-Power Mac lineup with some bizarre (and apparently cost-cutting) measure? Or was that the other dude who didn't understand Apple and corrupted its upper eschelons?

Well, he and others were the reason the original Mac cost so much AFAIK.
Steve wanted to sell it for far cheaper to get market share... oops!
