Greg Louganis for men and I don't really follow women's sports.
My own personal diving hero though is Matt Scoggins, probably because I knew how cool he was from him teaching me. ;)

Don Bradman for mine - his batting average for Australia was close to double that of the next best player (still is!)

I don't know if you would call him a 'sports figure' exactly...

    but Bruce Lee.

He was soooooo good at Kung Fu, despite the misconception that
Martial arts actors can't actually fight. And Kung Fu is a sport, so
I think he belongs here. ;)

This one is easy, the greatest sports figure of all time is clearly Jay Fiedler!

I guess nobody is going to vote for Pete Rose, Mike Tyson, or OJ Simpson. :(

But Wilt Chamberlin ranks right up there, and his scoring ability was pre-Viagra - which really makes it amazing. ;)

Yeah, it's hard to argue with Bradman for men. But since I'm not a real cricket fan, I'll say Ali for men. Bo Jackson is a story of unrealized, unmatched potential, though.

For women, it's tougher, but probably Babe Didrickson (olympic medals in track and field events and golf titles). Althea Gibson (tennis and golf titles) and Navratilova have to be considered close seconds.
