I vote for HexMonkey. 95%+ of his posts contain very to-the-point assistance, often involving useful code. Is anyone else as universally helpful? Duff-Man?

That's the great thing, there's always someone that can help...ok, most of the time :p Also because of the popularity of the forums it doesn't take long at all to get a response from someone.

Not me! I'm here because I need help, not because I'm helpful. :D

    ;)

Now that he's a mod, anyone starting a thread will automatically be asked:

    1. Is this thread being created to ask a question?
    2. If so, have you searched using Google?
    3. And MR's Advanced Search?
    4. Really? Are you sure you used the right keywords?

Then, after a suitable delay (an hour minus one minute per month of membership), the thread will appear. The original poster will be redirected to e's current Keira photo so as to increase its click count.

I guess it depends on the definition of "helpful."

The person who helps me get through my day most often, just based on the sheer lunacy, audacity, and (mostly unintentional) hilarity of their posts and threads is...mymemory

    Really? Since when? ;) :p

(I'm goofing on edesign. He just helped me get my 300-frame 75 x 56 pixel 24 avatar that was over 600k down to 19k, and he did it 1-2-3. That's a big 10-4.)

However, this thread is about helpfulness – not necessarily most entertaining, thought-provoking or just funny... there are some people I will always stop and read regardless of topic.

There are even a few I will do a search on once every so often to see what they've been saying recently.

Same here. It's not possible to see every post, and some members are so consistently interesting/educational/fun to read that I almost wish there were a way - like with thread subscriptions - to be notified when they post.

Too bad the 1% of my posts that are helpful get buried under the heap of worthless ones....

I agree, or a system like Slashdot has where you only view posts with a "rating" or in this case a poster rating above a certain level. That sure would make browsing the HUGE announcement threads easier.
