I just scanned Ebay to see if the rest of the "public" has noticed that the price of ipods have gone down.

Aparently not. Within the last 4 hours people have STILL paid and completed "buy it now" auctions for 15gb Ipod dock connector (Non click wheel) . Many of those have recently completed for OPEN items with no warranty for prices over $150 US (one person paid $187.50 for one, and it was opened with no warranty!)

If those people shopped more they would have noted that you can buy a Referb (same or better then buying used) ipod WITH apple cirtification, and Warranty, for only $170 (plus tax).

Have people lost the ability to shop around? Or do more people feel safe on Ebay, as opposed to other online shopping locations.

    Just ranting..

I dunno, but I was just looking on ebay for a 30GB iPod Photo, and some of the prices of the auctions for NEW IN BOX is $10 or so LESS than a new 20GB iPod Photo from apples website.... so im currently debating whether to go for eBay, or just go for the 20GB from apple... bidding is intense for those right now.

It seems that most anything on ebay that I find is over priced. I can find something on reputable sites that are either close to same price or even cheaper. It just takes a lttle bit of searching for the best deal. Sometimes I can find a good deal on ebay but with outragious shipping charges it can be almost more than if I went to the store and bought it. But people still bid, whatever.

Yeah people are just stupid i think. For one thing I don't think they take postage cost into consideration. So they may be getting a product for slightly less than they could get it at their local retailer but it is more expensive from ebay because they forget about postage.

Also I think with automatic bidding people put their maxiumum bid as the same price they could get it from a retailer (like the Apple store) and as such the final bid price is almost the same as you could buy it elsewhere. For example I saw a powermac g5 go on ebay for only $100 less than you could buy it from the applestore. Again delivery cost had to be added. So they were probably $50 better off in the end.

In a lot of ways ebay is crap. If you do some searching on google you can often find retailers who will sell stuff much cheaper than ebay. For example I bought my router and wirless PCI cards for much cheaper than anywhere on ebay.

Unfortunately idiots use ebay too and ruin the whole thing!

I can totally understand that for new items. I just don't understand how and why people are paying so much for used. Besides the fact that there are other places to buy used ipods besides Ebay, and why people pay so much.

I am seriously considering selling my old 15gb iPod on ebay now. If I can get $100 + for it, and put it in the direction of buying a newer (with warranty) Ipod from Apple, it may be worth it!

It looks like there are plenty of people that are willing to buy it.. All It looks like I need to do to sell it, is include the box that came with it, some brand new headphones (also include the white ones at no charge), and include the cables and manuals..

heh.. It is tempting, but I love my old light up button ipod Dock!

yeah, seems silly - when there looks to be a surplus of the older iPods out there, check amazon for example, 20g B&W ipod, new sealed, etc, from a company you can trust, for $250. not a bad price.

Auctions are all about the heat of the moment, it's addictive. When you start bidding you think that you're going to get a bargain, but when someone outbids you you think "I'll just bid a few £'s more" until it's too late.

When I use eBay, I always think "what is this item worth to me" (including postage, which can sometimes be ridiculous). And I won't bid more.

Because some people are vying for the Darwin-lite awards?

Or maybe it's for the thrill of outbidding their competition or just plain habit. That said, it's for this very reason why I don't visit Ebay as much as I have in the past. It's harder to find the truly great deals.

i think it's even worse than that. i have seen people buying used digital cameras without warranty for more than professional dealers in their ebay store would charge for new ones. on top of that you get warranty and lower shipping costs at the ebay stores.
people are not even checking in ebay if there is a better deal. and if they get a better deal it's just 5% less than going to Best Buy and pick up a brand new item.
i was thinking that that were all scams and they probably never pay. so it doesn't matter how much they bid. but it simply happens to often to be all a scam.
for me ebay is not the place to shop for electronics. too many idiots.

eBay is a great place to sell my old used gear, so... I love it :D

I did get a deal on a 128 MB SD card for my PDA, which I think I paid like $7 for. But for the most part I use eBay to sell.

its e-bay, everything is cheaper there right? or thats what people think. "i got it on e-bay, it must have been a good deal" i find this can be true. IF you shop around and bid around on a number of items. often times depending on the day of week or time of day that a bid ends the price will go up or down for an item. i have been shopping for beer mirrors for my home bar (advertising mirros that you see at normal bars) and i noticed that auctions that end on the weekend usually have a higher price. acutions that end at 6pm on a wednesday night (dinner time) have a lower price. almost exactly the same items going for drastically different priced. (25-30 vs 30-40) so i am sure durring more popular web surfing times e-bay items go up b/c people just bid w/o seriously considering the price. so, if you shop smart, you can find good deals. and if youre trying to sell something then have it end on a weekend at a prime time you will likely make more money off of it!!! shop smart, sell smart!
