Why do these macs cost less than U.S. prices?

    Well, that's british currency. It's not $839.
    In American that would be somewhere around $1250
    British pound I think worth atleast 25-35% more than US Dollar.

    Correction: And £1 = $1.59 USD. ;)

    LOL. True. Or try japanese site. Probably will be like 50,000,000 yen for a 233Mhz imac hehe.

    Too bad italy switched to the Euro, the Lira was trading at about 2500 to the dollar for its last few years...an iBook would set you back over a million!

    I thought it took $1.60 to buy 1 Pound Sterling?

    Yep, I thought it was around 1.6 too. But I dunno. Market changes. I'm too lazy to go on my yahoo page and check lol.

    Yep. Just checked.

    Today Pound Sterling trades 1 for 1.596100 USD.

    SO, 1.6 is correct.

    Which means you 839 Pound Sterling computer would end up costing you around $1342

    50 Million yen would buy you a small apartment in Tokyo.... or 5 Mercedes Benz S500 (the universal Japanese value base). :D

    So did I, but I didn't find it "unbelievable" since the US dollar has been dropping in relation to many other currencies.

    The Canadian dollar to British Pound exchange rate was £1 = $2.55 Canadian dollars. Now its at £1 = $2.22 Cdn. I guess what I said was just too unbelievable.
