why does iTunes try to connect to the internet on start up

    why does iTunes try to connect to the internet on start up?

    and who does it connect to?

    whats it checking for?

    i caught it with the niffty little app little snitch

    Maybe it's trying to connect to the iTunes Music Store :confused:

    nope... just tries to go online accessing my library... grrr whats all that about..... damn sneaks

    I think it's telling the iTunes server thingy who you are, and what name your iTunes account is. Maybe it also has something to do with you music authorization.

    Don't sweat it, I'm sure Apple isn't spying on you.

    I don't think that it automatically checks iTMS purchases on boot up, but it might be looking for other shared libraries. Do you have that function turned on?

    look in the preference window

    there are a few options there saying connect to internet when neccesary or so.

    do you have a CD in the tray? Maybe it's trying to get the track names from CDDB when you start up.

    Dunno - does it say anything when it tries it? If you're really curious, you could try something like littlesnitch that would tell you where it's connecting to.

    yeah thats what im using madbug....

    it just gives me an ip address... i think it might just be trying to connect to the itms... because when i deny it access it wont let me acces the itmas... shame it connects without asking

    Do you have the little arrows that link you to the iTMS switched on?
    Maybe try turning those off if you have them on...

    You could uncheck "Connect to the Internet when needed" in iTunes preferences to stop it from connecting automatically without asking you.
