A religiously oppressed state
I remember in OS 9 when you hid Finder the desktop icons would dissapear too, this doesn't happen in OS X. Why did Apple get rid of that? I know that it's not really useful but I'm sure some sneaky or OCD people would enjoy it back.

As far as I know there isn't anything you can do about having the icons still being visible when you hide the Finder. Sure you can go to Finder Prefs and have nothing show up on the Desktop at any time.

What's the big deal with it anyway?
