hopefully this will counter some of the "who, me?" spin coming from the WH over the past couple days.

perhaps a name change is in order, FEMA -> FEMUR. Federal Emergency Mismanagement Under Republicans.

Hmm, a small furry primate or a part of the leg. Tough choice...

Anyway, I hope this puts an end to all of the excuses some people seem obligated to make for the federal performance in the response to this disaster. But I have a feeling it won't.

    It figures.

In response to a disaster, whether man-made or natural, there are certain things that always be potentially needed: ships, helicopters, trucks, providing rescue, food and supplies. Defenses against all other contingencies (biohazards, missiles, etc.) are in addition to those basics. So I don't see any room for excuses where FEMA is concerned. Even "perhaps we concentrated too much on terrorism" isn't an excuse.

i'm just waiting for this administration's mantra to begin:

" lets just focus on where we are, not how we got here..."

    it's inevitable.

That's what a good many in here, myself included Start With FEMA, have been saying. My part of the leg theme though would be Last Arriving Managing Excuses - LAME

Now, now. Brown brings a unique skill set to the job. You know of any one else with his expertise in Arabian horses? I didn't think so. When some state is overrun with them, you'll be thanking Bush for his astute appointment.

    We're already there.

And does anyone think it would have been much better if it was a terrorist attack? Some of us have been saying that the government isn't as prepared as it claims to be, ie Iraq, and now we have proof. Guess we gave up all those civil liberties over nothing. Shame that it took something like this to prove it.

You're right about that. If Bush's administration can't handle this, they sure can't handle a terrorist attack.

The next president is going to spend most of his administration cleaning up the mess from this one. Assuming he's not another incompetent neo-con.

It's because "George Bush hates black people."

That is exactly what I thought when I read the article. There are certain supplies they have at their disposal for . Food, water, blankets, helicopters, vans, trucks, troops, large ships.........all standard things they must have ready for a terrorist attack.

Do natural disaster victims require a different type of food and water that terrorist victims?

This just keeps getting better, doesn't it. And here I almost thought they'd learn their lesson. Somebody might want to let Bush know that there is still a little red tape to deal with.
