This list doesn't take into account future updates that either device may have.

    Hardware:
    1. Removable/replaceable battery
    2. microSD card slot (total storage up to 96GB)
    3. NFC (i.e. Android Beam, Google Wallet, NFC sticker customization)
    4. USB (vs. proprietary connector)
    5. LED notification light
    6. HD resolution

Software: way too many to list, but my biggest ones:
    1. Google Maps/Navigation/StreetView
    2. Free WiFi tethering
    3. File sharing via any app that plugs into the open sharing API
    4. Ability to choose default apps for tasks/filetypes
    5. Chrome to Phone/Fox to Phone
    6. Free ad blocking apps (i.e. Ad Away and AdFree)
    7. Auto-updating widgets
    8. True file system
    9. Settings toggles
    10. Tons more from mib1800

That's great and all but why not join the threads where this is already being discussed?

I would've posted in this thread but a mod moved it to the Wasteland.

I have chosen the S3 over the iPhone 4S/5 and I also think it's a lot better.

But these tit-for-tat threads really are becoming tiresome. Truth is, they're both awesome phones and each has their pros and cons.

Buy the one that fits your needs :). That's why it's good to have competition! Everyone's needs are different. BTW, I for see this thread getting big or the S3 vs. iPhone 5 thing blowing up again.

Why I went for iPhone 5 instead of gs3

Who went for the Galaxy S3 instead of iPhone 5?

    My SG3 review / experience

so do you think the iphone5 puts the galaxy s3 to shame?

    So long Galaxy S3

These are all discussing basically the same thing (the one that got moved to the wasteland was a troll thread btw). Having just one megathread for iPhone 5 vs S3 comparison would make the forum less spammy tbh.

The USB thing and the HD resolution aren't that compelling of reasons. The iPhone 5's display is sharper than the Galaxy S3's thanks to PenTile + iP5's slightly higher pixel density. Not to mention the iPhone 5's camera is AWESOME.

This is coming from a Galaxy S3 owner btw.

The GS3 screen is utterly horrid by any standard.

It's not kinda bad, it's outright awful

You have no clue what you are talking about. The S3's screen is fine. Super AMOLED is far from being utterly horrid. Is it the best screen out there? No. But it is far from being horrid. Stop with middle school drama. It has 309ppi and 720P resolution. Give it a break already.

GS3 screen resolution is pretty close to Retina but what you're referring to horrid meaning Samsung bumped the contrast and saturation too much that it's not comfortable to view the screen for long period. It's like staring at over saturated TV setting on Samsung TVs.

I own both and the screen on the S3 is no match for the iphone. If you were talking size then yeah maybe, but as far as "HD" resolution the iphone is just better.

in the end both are good phones. Choose the ecosystem you like, choose the form factor you like. Opinions will always be just that.....opinions.

Free WiFi tethering? Isn't this carrier-dependent? I have an iPhone 4 that supports tethering (hotspot). I use it all the time and my iPhone isn't jailbroken. Do they prohibit that in the US unless you jailbreak your phone?

What do you mean by LED notification light? There is a setting in iOS that allows you to use the iPhone's flash as a notification light. It flashes for phone calls and text messages.

The point of a notification light is to look at the phone and know if you have any notifications without having to turn on your screen. To call the camera flash on the backside of the phone a notification light is a stretch on Apple's part.

The GS3 has the worst screen on any "flagship" phone.

    http://www.displaymate.com/Smartphone_ShootOut_2.htm#Table

-It's dark and dim. It has a abysmal candelas per square meter of 224. That is VERY bad for a mobile device

-The Galaxy S III has a much poorer contrast rating and screen visibility in bright ambient light.

-Pentile artifacts are immediately visible, so it just looks off and wrong from the jump.

-Everything is glazed in a funky blue hue that discolors everything, and the color gamut is ALL WRONG.

    - At maximum, the GS3 screen eats a whooping 1.3 watts of power, so it's not especially power efficient. If you turn up the brightness to see things outside better because it's so dim, power consumption goes up to a massive 2.2 Watts, while the iPhone 5 coasts at .74 watts

So, no matter how you cut it, the iPhone 5 display is better, and the GS3 display basically sucks like all AMOLED displays.

If you want a good android display you'll go with an Atrix or HTC OneX, and avoid AMOLED like the plague.

I'm hoping that you meant the Atrix HD and not the original Atrix, since the original Atrix screen was a pile of $*** when you looked at it other than the 10 degree optimum angle. I don't think any Pentile SAMOLED can compare to a good IPS LCD screen right now. Non-Pentile maybe, but the screens on the One X and iPhone 5 are much better. I had a One X and the screen was just fabulous. Is the S3 screen bad, i wouldn't say so. I think it's pretty good for what it is. For some odd reason and i don't know why, I like the screen on my Galaxy Note better than the S3. Everything just looks crisper without the pentile crap creeping in. I don't notice it on my note, but 5 seconds on the S3, and boom it's there.

Thanks to that diagram, I now know why my iPhone 4 screen looks so yellow.

The iPhone 5 also has a midget sized screen. You'll squint just as much as a gs3 in full sun just trying t make out the words...

Come on bro. This crap isn't going to sway gs3 owners in any way. It's going to piss people off and in turn, cause them to come piss you off.

iPhones are incredibly well built, but painfully plain. if that's what you need, then great. Just because it suits YOU best doesn't mean it's THE best.

Also, looking at my gs3 screen, I still don't see what the gripe is over pentile nor do I see any blue hue at all. Now, my iPad 3 DOES have a yellow hue to it...I still haven't considered any other tablet.

You guys are overexaggerating the saturation on the GS3.

Correct, the Atrix HD. It has a phenomenal screen.

Back in July I started this thread comparing displays: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1404452

Even now, I still maintain that AMOLED screens are bottom of the barrel where it matters. The GS3 screen is not a good screen.

DisplayMate seems to disagree with you. Rates it as a very good display. Oh well, whatever you want to say. People enjoy the size. Would you pick a 32" lcd at 1080 or a 50" at 720. Most would prefer the 50" because the resolution difference is not very noticeable. It is obvious you have something against the S3 and enjoy ragging on it to make yourself feel better. Might be helpful to just admit it is a great phone. This is why so many people like it and have purchased it. No one really cares if you don't like it personally. But 20 + million people do like it. So, stop trolling and do something useful.

Actually, Primo, here is what Displaymate said:

If someone says the iPhone5 screen is smaller than the GS3 screen, it's not "ragging"; it's a fact.

It's also the fact that the GS3 screen is not very good. It's big, but who cares when the display quality is sub second rate.

Go back and look under the overall assessments where it says: "These Flagship displays are all Very Good to Excellent." Again, overall assessment is very good. Not poor, not utterly horrific, or any other of that BS.
