I noticed on MSN and several other websites that support for Quicktime has vanished in films and music. Only Windows Media Player works. I suspect M$ is trying to do kill quictime b/c they do not control it... (like Netscape)
    :p

Is there any way to cirumvent this, or do I have to buy a PC?

    (VPC is too slow)

The Mac and Mac OS X is superior.

Could you please explain why it has 2-5% market share?

    ;)

Quicktime is actually growing in popularity, they are now bigger than Real:

Since all PCs come preinstalled with Windows Media Player and all Macs come preinstalled with Quicktime, any website that wants to do media can just do those two, and know that their customers all have the required software already. The same can't be said about Real, which is not preinstalled on anything.

I would much rather watch movie clips or trailers on the net with quicktime. I would rather wait and watch a progressive download clip than a steaming windows media clip.

Although windows streaming media is semi decent. I would much rather see Real burn up. Their spyware player has been plauging the internet for years, its streaming capabilities seem garbage, and they want you to register with it and all sorts of stuff no one wants to bother with.

I don't think quicktime is in any risk of dying though. I hope it continues to get bigger like broken_keyboard said.

Do you know what MSN stands for? MSNBC? Why is it a surprise that they use Microsoft formats?

I'll save the speech about a less than fair corporation such as Microsoft owning media outlets for another time. If it bothers you when content is only available in Windows Media format then you don't have to bend over backward to view it. Personally, I walk away from it. If I need WMP to watch it, I don't watch it. It's really simple.

However, if you're just looking for a quick fix then you can download Windows Media Player for your Mac.

I never really thought that WMP was really bad at all but when compared to Quicktime, there is no comparison. The quality margin will only broaden when Tiger comes out.
