There are always updates around the corner...but if you can wait for WWDC, then do.

The iMac is a good machine as is, and unless you are really happy with what you have now, I say it is a good time to buy.

The only thing REALLY worth waiting for is touchscreen, which has been speculated on, but this may only come (if it does) with Leopard, which will come in October according to Apple :)

    Wait?

Waiting for expedited shipping was all I could bear.

While touchscreen sounds pretty cool, I really wouldn't want to be grubbing up and poking at my nice iMac. Maybe a work computer, because frankly who cares, but my baby at home, nuh uh, no way.

I'd say wait for what WWDC has to offer first, then get a Mac. I'm doubting any major upgrades to the iMac by June, but it would be good to just see all the new things and weigh your options before purchasing a new iMac to know exactly what you want.

My plan was to wait until June as well for an update on the iMac, but I grew impatient. I am currently typing this post on my new iMac and I am so glad that I made the purchase.

I started to really think about whether or not waiting for a new model to come out was really worth it. Here is what came into my mind:

    1. If the Apple decided to integrate the Santa Rosa technology into the iMacs, there wouldn't be too much of a noticeable change unless you decide to deck out the machine with 4 gigs of ram. There may be an upgrade to the video cards, but for my uses the x1600 with 256 vram is enough.

    2. The current build of the iMacs are gorgeous. They are space efficient and beautiful. I have no clue what apple is going to do for the next models, but I don't really care; my 20' iMac is GORGEOUS.

    3. I was thinking about waiting for Leopard to come out in October, but then something else came into mind -- when leopard comes out, it's going to have bugs in it: guaranteed. The initial release of all of Apple's operating systems have a list of bugs. Knowing myself, I wouldn't buy the operating system in October, I would wait for a few months. So, I would end up waiting 8 months until buying some form of a mac. I didn't want to wait that long. Besides, Tiger is running super smooth as it is and it is a good OS.

Those are the reasons that led to me buying my iMac sooner than later. The next breed of iMacs may be more powerful, but for my purposes, I wouldn't be able to tell. That's my two cents.

Maybe a black model to match the black iPods and Macbooks? Maybe thinner iMacs? Maybe iMacs with less of a "belly"? (the bit under the screen). No idea. Apple will think of something, though!

I was deadset on getting a Mac Mini, but I've now considered a 20" iMac. Granted, I'm in no position right now to buy, so I'll play the waiting game. Anything right now would be much better than my PowerMac.

Just in terms of perspective... have there been a lot of times in the past when consumer hardware updates dropped at WWDC? My impression is that there have not.

Agreed - WWDC is for more on the professional side of things, not consumer.

But with the 24" iMac supposedly pegged as a 'prosumer' machine, it wouldn't be too far fetched to see an update at WWDC.

    Well, thanks for the advice.

Do you have any other details? Timeframe? Anything to distinguish this from the rumor we already got from Appleinsider a month ago?

I'm just waiting, like many others.

Is this reliable source, by chance, your imagination?

My reliable sources tell me that the new models will be out between now and the implosion of our sun.

"industrial"? What does that term mean in this context? I already gathered they'd be mass-produced...
