hey, I was just wondering how to change the icon of my Windows partition so it shows up in the boot menu and OS X. It seems that I have read only access to the partition, so I can't modify the icon. Ideas?

If you formatted the Windows partition with NTFS (more than 32 GB), than you can only read from that hard drive. Mine is formatted NTFS and I can't even change the hard drive icon from "untitled".

you could change the "untitled" from within the Windows itself

not only that, you can change the bootcamp partition's icon to whatever you want.
if it's FAT32 it's like any normal folder.
if it's NTFS, do the following steps

    1. Format a USB thumdrive to FAT32. Change the Drive icon for it to the one you want your Windows drive to be. (using Get Info and cut&paste commands)

    2. In terminal, go to: /Volumes/
you'll see a file named something like '._USBSTICKNAME'
duplicate it, then rename it to something like '._WINDOWSXPDRIVENAME'

    3. Now boot into Windows. Connect the USB thumbdrive, you'll see a file called '.VolumeIcon.icns'.

    4. Copy it to your Windows' C:\

I've been putting off doing this ever since I got my iMac. I will definitely give this a go when I get home. Thanks!
