Windows Phone 8 and a Mac (and poll)

So, after seeing everything offered by Windows Phone 8 (and the amazing devices coming to Verizon), I am pretty much sold on Windows Phone 8. This may even be the first time I buy an unlocked phone to bring to a carrier, or if I wait for my upgrade, I may move to Windows Phone rather than using my iPhone.

That said, how well did Windows Phone 7 play with Mac? My main concern is keeping my iCloud contacts in sync and being able to sync my music with iTunes. Will Windows Phone 8 make this easier?

Also as a poll, how do you feel about Windows Phone 8? Does it make you want a WP8 device, does it at least capture your attention, or do you not care for it at all?

I like Windows 8 and the Lumina looks like a really nice phone, but to be honest I think Android 4.2 on the new Nexus 4 will steal a lot of the thunder from Windows 8. It will be my next phone for sure.

That's a very good question, and I can't think of a single answer besides trolling.

The kernel is a hybrid, similar to OS X. It runs the same kernel, just as iOS and OS X share the same kernel (even some of the same people who worked on the mach kernel used in OS X worked on the NT kernel!). Moving on up, the UI has won numerous design awards. The app store policies are less restrictive than Apple's, and it's supposedly easier to code apps for Windows in C# than Objective C.

This is Windows Phone 8 we're talking about, not Windows 8. They're completely seperate OS's that share the name and kernel only. Windows Phone doesn't freeze, crash, or catch a virus, let alone exist 5 years ago.

Those would be good reasons NOT to get the phone. One of the great things about iPhone is that apps are written in low level code (i.e. efficient) and carefully checked by Apple to ensure they are high quality.

If you are a developer trying to bang out apps on the cheap, Android and Windows Phone are your best friends. If you are an end user, iPhone is King.

Being on Verizon, the new Windows Phone 8X might be the best phone choice this holiday. My biggest decision is if I want to go down that rabbit hole. I'm thinking it's better to stick with my GNex, but I'm tired of the battery life and outdated hardware. I suppose I will wait and see if the apps on WP8 improve.

I never said you can't use low level C++ code, simply that you can also use C# which is super easy to code in. It's like Java, but from Microsoft, and without the slowness or mile-wide holes.

if you get a virus in this day and age, you should not be using a computer. The built in windows security is more than enough.

I'll admit I downloaded a lot of P2P files off torrent sites, mostly movies and music, and I am sure most problems arose from that. However, I have done all the exact same things on 3 different Macs over 5 years and no problems at all. So yea, Windows sucks.

Nah mate it doesnt suck if/when macs become profitable for exploits and malware then you will have the same problem

Love the style of WP8, and read The Verge review of the Lumia 920. Looks like a real solid device.

Also I have to say everyone loves good underdogs (opposed to both iOS & Android). Good thing there are other fishes in the Sea...

Since I am not so much involved in the paid apps of Apple's ecosystem/purchased media, I can go where I want to. That's freeeeddddooooommm ...

WP8 applications can be written to native code using C++. In fact the Unity game engine has been ported to the WP8 platform.

So you know you're doing risky behavior and you still blame Windows?

Does the car cause the drunk driving accident? You wouldn't have had that accident if you had been walking or riding a bicycle. I'm sure the driving is the culprit, not the massive quantities of alcohol you drank.
