Just got my 20" iMac, loving it already. I need to xfer my 20gb of iTunes music to the mac though, and I wanted some suggestions/insight. This is my plan of attack.

    1. Share out the iTunes "my music" folder on the XP PC.
    2. Connect via network to PC share and copy data (wait 2 hours).
    3. Deauthorize PC iTunes
    4. Open iTunes on iMac, "add folder or folders" of the music I copied over to the iTunes library, allow iTunes to copy into it's own folder.
    5. Authorize iTunes on iMac
    6. dock winpod
    7. download and run OS X version of ipod updater
    8. allow itunes to synch
    9. delete folder I copied over from the XP PC as iTunes should already have it's own library built.

Am I missing any steps? Would you do anything differently?

You have an iPod? If so, just use iLinkPod and make sure to deauth your PC afterward. You won't need to change the format of your iPod if you don't want to. Actually comes in handy if you also use it for file storage since it would be cross platform (Apple formatted iPods can't be read without third party software on the ol PC).

So if I'm understanding the tool correctly, I run it, then have access to my ipod songs as data, and then copy them from the ipod to the music folder on the mac HD? Then deauth pc, auth mac, and I'm good?

I'm going to reformat that ipod so that I can update it in the future from the mac, i'm going to get rid of the PC completely.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot.

I was just in Union Grove a few months ago, at the drag stip. Small world!

Another good one is iPodRip, it transfers all of your playlists and playcounts as well as your music. It took awhile to get my 5,000+ songs onto my PowerBook, but it was so simple that it was worth it.
