i have an older g3 ibook that takes the original airport card- and they are like $80 on ebay. is there any usb adapters that work on the mac- a guy at best buy told me the d-link would work but i saw no drivers for it. is there any other cards that might work on it.

a lot of people have issues with USb adaptors. Driver support is flaky or nonexistent. A better choice is ethernet based adaptors, but they require external power sources. If I were you, I'd just get an airport card/ lacomputercompany.com still carries them I believe.

www.xlr8yourmac.com has some info on using these in OS X. Some are quite flaky, but with the right drivers, some actually work.
