    an across this site:
    http://www.SelectSmart.com/president

it's a little quiz that will compare your views to the candidates (dunno who sponsors this thing, it might be bogus). found out this about who i agree with:

    1. Dean, Gov. Howard, VT - Democrat (100%)

    2. Kucinich, Cong. Dennis, OH - Democrat (98%)

    7. Leahy, Patrick Senator, Vermont - Democrat (78%)

    8. Edwards, Senator John, NC - Democrat (74%)

    9. Gephardt, Cong. Dick, MO - Democrat (72%)

    14. Lieberman Senator Joe CT - Democrat (69%)

    21. Clark, Retired Army General Wesley K "Wes" Arkansas - Democrat

    23. Gore, Former Vice-President Al - Democrat (49%) NOTE: suprised me!

    30. Bush, George W. - US President (12%)

    33. LaRouche, Lyndon H. Jr. - Democrat (0%)

note: you can select, as i did, to show more people than have declared canadidcy. it showed me 33 total.

    I omitted the dropped-out or not-announced.

    1. Libertarian Candidate (100%)
    2. Edwards, Senator John, NC - Democrat (91%)
    3. Bush, George W. - US President (84%)
    4. Gephardt, Cong. Dick, MO - Democrat (73%)

I'd stay home before I'd vote for Gephardt. I'd have to hold my nose, but I'd probably vote for Dubya...

Interesting how close the Natural Law Party candidate and Bush are on the list.

Also, I don't consider myself a huge Green Party guy, so I question the methodology of this test.

I included candidates who have not announced a run. A flawed and superficial test. Too few issues to accurately represent anything. I despise the Liberterian party and Pat Buchanan. I checked the pro-environment issue yet the Green Party is 22, huh?

In reality John McCain would be #1 on my list followed by Bush or Libermann.

not knowing the methodology, i can't speak for how well the test really works.

but let's say it does accurately map our views to those of the candidates. for those who are surprised by their results, could it be that we're being swayed too much by personalities?

e.g. perhaps sharpton is a raving lunatic, but what should one do if he accurately represents your views?

I suppose you could be right. I support the Liberterian laissez-faire philosophy but the Liberterian Party is hypocritical and mis-guided.

Shouldn't there be a question about borders and free-trade to weed out Pat 'North Korea' Buchanan :p

zim, I don't wanna get in a gun control argument, but that's an important issue with me. Most of the Dems are strongly anti-gun...(The NRA question on the "test" is probably what brought Bush up to #3 on my list. I guess.)

I took one of these on-line tests once, and was labelled a "Paleo-Libertarian", whatever that is. However, the libertarian idea just can't work (IMO) in real life. "Looks good on paper."

    Vote for Dean then!:D

Just kidding. I know you'd probably rather cut your own trigger finger off w/o anesthesia before you'd do that.
